Should I sand down the epoxy primer before putting on primer/surfacer? The finish is not slick, it's got a really primer-like finish.. But should I sand it, and with what grit?

It sounds to me like you want a perfect, show quality finish. That being the case, you're going beyond my skill level. There are others here who can help and I've seen that you've been given good advice up to now.

I'm beginning to wonder if what that body shop did to your car isn't the best thing that ever happened to you. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Soon you will have done a very fine job making your car the best it can be. That's an experience that you should be proud to put under your belt.

I don't know if you're aware of it or not, but there's a great site covering automotive paint work, techniques, materials, tools, etc. They have a great discussion forum. The url is: http://www.autobodystore.com/cgi-bin/config.pl?

I think a few searches over there would save you a little waiting on answers over here if you need something right away.

Not that Team Chevelle's Body Shop Forum is less than theirs, it's just that they go into such detail and there's info on everything paint & body over there.

Good luck! We're all pulling for you!

If your putting epoxy down as a base for other primers such as urthane you don't sand it. Epoxy is a base of primers, a sealer rust resistant bottom coat that you want to be thick as in non sanded. If you'r using it as a sealer before top coat you still don't sand it. If you have any questions mail me Iv'e been useing this for many many years now and it works great.

I am just now starting to paint my first car and I asked my paint lady, Crystal, this exact question. She said, "no". She did say if bug legs are in it then 1500 paper can be used to remove them before a top coat. (This is because I am using enamel over the epoxy on the backs of the fenders and all inside the engine compartment parts.)

Kinda nice to have a paint expert willing to spend all the time needed to explain every aspect of painting a car as I have a question!
