I purchased an aftermarket Cowl Induction Hood (functioning) for my 70 SS from OPG (replaced non functioning hood). The body shop installed when the car was painted. (BEWARE -- darn thing didn't line up very well at all by headlight bezel)
Anyway -- when the hood is shut it now hits my air cleaner assembly (looks like the correct 70 air cleaner assembly for the cowl induction). The hole in the hood doesn't mate correct to the cleaner assembly. I do have a 1/2 spacer on the carb. Has anybody run into a similiar problem
Oh and the hood is lined up straight along the edges of the body (only bad gap is by the headlight bezel on the front drivers side)
Could the spacer be the problem?
Thanks,
Dave

Sorry you're having problems with it. Is the gap by the headlight bezel fixable? Can you post pics? How far off is the cleaner from the hole (front, back etc.)? I'm thinking of getting the same hood, but I don't want it to look bad.

Wyatt,
I'm getting the shipped to me and will receive tomorrow. I'll take some pics of the gap and post them for you. The right front is about 1/2 gap and the left front is less than a 1/4 inch gap. One too big one too small. The lines along the side of the hood/fender is straight and gapped correctly. I was told to do a few measurements to see if its actually the hood or if its a slight misalignment in the fender .. 1/4 could do it. I'll let you know what I find out there.
As far as the cleaner hole I need to check exactly where and why that is hitting .. looks like back and passenger side are hitting but I didn't play with it much when I looked at the car after the paint job. I will this week.
I trust the body guy did what he could to fix the problem (said he worked on it several hours) -- he is a "good ole boy" from Oklahoma and has been working on these cars for 25+ years. Not to say he couldn't of missed something. He told me he could line up 10 of these aftermarket hoods in a row and they all wont be exact.
To be continued ....

It's not something crazy like an off-set air cleaner is it? I just put on a Goodmark aftermarket CI hood and didnt have any problems clearing the cowl air cleaner. The only thing I can think of is if the hood isnt "centered" just right, the lip of the opening might be catching the aircleaner.
My hood was to the front just a little (1/4") and it was catching the aircleaner. Just a minor adjustment and everything was okay.
I guess another thing to consider is if your using an aftermarket intake and carb. They can cometimes cause the air cleaner to sit a little higher, especially if your using the spacer.
