: Removing bumpers on a 71
RacnJsn95 Jan 10th, 03, 6:20 AM This has got to be the most frustrating job in the world! I have 3 bolts out on each side, but I cant get the "corner" bolts out for the life of me. I'm getting ready to shoot primer on my car, and I would like to get it off asap. Any helpful hints? By saying corner bolts I mean the bolts farthest to the left or right side on the FRONT of the bumper, not the sides. Thanks.
flywheel Jan 10th, 03, 7:23 AM That's the hard way (you know that tho),just unbolt the two bolts on each frame rail that hold the brkts TO the bumper and drop the whole bumper and brkt assembly together.Thennnnn, unbolt the brkts from the bumpers or not.... http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif Itried that way and believe me this is alooottt easier http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

chevl71 Jan 10th, 03, 2:52 PM I agree with Rick, The first one I did the hard way.
Leave the brackets on the bumpers. Bolts are located; 2, pointing up by the license plate, 2 pointing up under the car by the frame, 2 on each side in the trunk pointing to the rear of the car. Unbolt the license plate (it holds the valance to the bumper) and you're there.

RacnJsn95 Jan 12th, 03, 7:37 PM Well, I got the back one off, but where exactly are the bolts on the brackets on the front one? Theres a lot, and I dont have, or want to spend the time to figure out which is which.

We ALL found the time. THAT'S how you learn! No internet years ago. What's to figure out? Are you talking about the front BUMPER? Look at where the brackets mount to the frame and figure it out. There are two bolts per side. I don't want to sound harsh, but working on these cars takes some problem solving. If you can't do that, OR find the time, then you'll wind up making someone else rich doing it for you. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

Jerry,
That's some of the best advice I've heard on this site in a while!

RacnJsn95 Jan 14th, 03, 10:32 AM I finally got both off, thanks your your help everyone. The reason I dont have time is, I am still in school, and am a lazy kid with a short attention span. You guys know how lazy kids can be. I want to get my car primered and/or painted as soon as I can, it has been to many different colors for to long.
