I am going to paint a hood scoop for a friend and I would like to know if laquer primer will work ok for fiber glass.
If not, what should I get?

Thanks

Sure you can use laquer primer on fiberglass. but ! normally fiber galss Scoops, hoods and parts need blocking .
It would take alot of coats with the laquer to achive the same as a 2k Highbuild primer.

unless he just wants something on it.
one positine note if thats the case. The fiberglass will not start rusting from all the moisture the laquer primer will suck up

I was going to try the laquer primer.
This scoop is off a 70 Challenger R/T and was gell coated I think. I am going to shoot a coat of primer and then smear some all metal on it, then block that.

thanks for the reply Wayne!

Dave, save yourself a LOT of work and forget your plan. Sand it down good with 120 and put a few coats of polyester primer. You will be able to block out dang near ANYTHING with that. The Gel coat IS basicly a polyester paint so the polyester primer is right at home. It is only about $20.00 a quart (which would be enough for about 10 scoops or more) so the price is right.

If you have a NAPA store you may be able to get it there. Part number 5190 or 15205 under the MS line.
