im working on a car(1971) that had air, and everything was removed-i have heard you can take a non a/c underhood unit and match up the holes where the fan was, and use that as a template for the rest of the holes, then weld in a plate to cover the orig a/c hole-i was wondering if then you could use a non a/c heater under the dash(i can change the dash to a non a/c one)-
has anyone done this, and does it sound about right-thanks

I believe this is a true statement about swappng out an AC underdash unit with a non AC box and controls. However, I don't know about the firewall side. If you have the non AC firewall heater box does the blower motor hole and heater hose holes line up? If that is true, then all you'd need to do is weld up the AC hole, the rectangular one). I wish I went this way and not the AC delete box on the firewall.

Do some searches on stuff I have posted on Vintage Air and A/C conversions. Everything you need to know is there.

I agree with Drew. I also did the AC delete box on the firewall, but kept the AC heaterbox on the interior, Looks good on the engine side, but now I can't get anything to work right on the interior box. All my the vacum stuff is shot. Might not be a problem for someone else who had everything working, but mine had been disconnected for years (now i know why)
Wish i had just gotten a non-AC heaterbox & firewall cover, and modified it that way. My first 69 Elcamino was done that way. They had a peice of tin attached covering the old AC opening on the firewall, and all the NON AC stuff hooked up and working.
I may still go that way if i can't get my inside box working right.
