: '65 Malibu 4spd Trans Tunnel
CReM@$TeR Nov 24th, 00, 6:27 PM Can anybody supply me with a picture of the trans tunnel for a 4spd '65 Malibu? I'm building a road-racer, but want to keep the body somewhat stock, and the owner before me butchered the trans tunnel. I've seen several different ones in catalogs, but some of them show a round hole, some show an oval hole, some of them have a hole with a square platform. I would just like to see what it should look like. Thanks.

Philip Nov 24th, 00, 7:01 PM There are 2 different styles for the 65, with or without console. Without console has a larger top surface so that a shift boot can be installed. i'm not positve but the hole may also be closer to the driver on the no console type.
CReM@$TeR Nov 25th, 00, 8:11 AM So how do I tell if mine came with a console? I bought the car with no engine and trans, and the trans tunnel cut up. I'm to the part now where I have to replace the driver side floor pan and fit the Richmond 6 speed, so I thought I'd bolt it in and fit the replacement pan around it, I just don't know which one I need. Thanks.
P.S. Leo, Thanks for the welcome, I've been on Camaros.net for awhile now, but I've owned my Chevelle longer than my Camaro. I have to say, both of these sites are awesome! I have and addiction to these tech discussion pages, I'm checking them several times a day, it's a wonder I get any work done on my rides! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

BAD415 Nov 25th, 00, 5:31 PM Only SS cars had a console so if the VIN begins with 137 =6cyl or 138 =V8 it would have had a console.

JJ'65 Nov 25th, 00, 7:00 PM El Caminos with deluxe trim (13680) had a console too. I don't have an elecronic camera, but i can borrow one next week and e-mail you a shot or two (I'll have to figure out how to do that too). My EC has no carpet or console in it right now, and never been butchered, so you cam see it as it came from the factory (minus the carpet and console)

BAD415 Nov 25th, 00, 7:08 PM Thanks for the correction JJ. I'm only familiar with the Chevelle side. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
CReM@$TeR Nov 25th, 00, 7:34 PM Thanks, guys. Mine is not an SS, just a plain jane Malibu 13637 (well it won't be that plain with the 496). I have a new panel to put in, but it is the rounded one with the oval hole in it, not the box square one with the round hole. I hope it is the correct one.

Philip Nov 26th, 00, 8:05 AM The 6 speed shifter will not come thru the floor where the 4 speed one did. Have you got the trans installed yet? If not you better put it in first before you do any work on the floor. The piece you have will most likely need modified to fit where you need it.
CReM@$TeR Nov 26th, 00, 9:04 AM Thanks 64elcamino,
I better check it, I was under the impression that the Richmond was the same length as a 4 speed and would bolt in the same way, crossmember, shifter hole, etc. I'll have to get the engine block and scattershield and set them in and bolt the trans up, then I'll mock up the one I have and weld it in. I was just trying to maintain a stock location, but oh well.
