Has anyone used a dash insert from Covan's Classic? I am interested in getting one for my project, but there are limited "finished product" photos on the web...if anyone has one installed (preferably on a '70-72), please post pics or comments. Thanks.

Do a search for Covan, and you find what you are looking for. I did it and I found this link to a members cardomain page. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2294341

Here is a Covan's insert I put in my '70. I ordered it blank, and placed the gauges where I wanted them, since I didn't like Covan's layout at all for the sweep dash. The Speedo, and Tach are 3-3/8", and the rest of the gauges are 2-7/8". The 2-7/8" gauges were a very tight fit on the bottom, but they will fit.

I have seen several installed in person and they just looked out of place to me. Especially the 66-67 models. For that price they charge I would rather make my own.

ya it is pricey but would u like to enlighten me on how to make one for a 67 elky or chevelle, cuz i am acutally in the process of trying to make one before the Covan one i ordered from summit gets shipped which is may 1. so im experimenting with some mdf for the templates and/or actual finished product with either stainless sheet metal or aluminum which i would most likely paint. any insight would be greatly appreciated as to how to fab something that would basically serve the same purpose as the covans classic editions..

my malibu dash was destroyed so i just purchased a brand new ss dash from opgi and chopped it up to put a black non drilled covans insert into it, the lady said that they dont have a real lot in stock cuz they stopped making them, most of them arent drilled. so far i like it, but remember you must do a lot of trimming to make it fit well, they are not a perfect fit, also what did everyone use to cut the holes out for the gauges, i just drew a circle and cut it out with a razor knife, it came out great but does anyone have any better suggestions?

also in the pic they show on the webssite for the ss dash insert they used two 3-3/8 gauges and four 2-1/16 gauges. however it is possible to substitute two of the little gauges for two normal size 2-5/8 gauges

I haven't been on this site in forever, so sorry for not answering your question. I never put a stereo in the car at all. I just loved the sound of the 3" exhaust, and the nice big thumpty thump of the cam.... I sold the car to some kid here in Vegas about a year and a half ago, and now I'm getting ready to build another, only this is a big block car. I'll probably put another covans insert in, with the same gauge layout. It probably won't have a stereo either.

I ordered a Covans for my boss's 66 with gauges. My boss likes the look of the aluminum, but the plastic dose not really look like aluminum. So I am pretty disappointed about spending $800 on something I am going to have to build my self. Basicly I will use the plastic inserts as templates an make them out of aluminum

Hate to sound stupid...but how does the dash go in. DO you have to cut out what's already there?? How does it attach to "what's left" of the original dash??? WHat holds it in place??? I asked Covan these questions and they couldn't answer !!!!! THanks

remove your old dash, insert covans dash....I have one in my 69, and the fit wasn't great but close enough that it screwed into most of the original dash mounting holes. my covans was pre-drilled, and i just added two holes/two leds for my turn signal lights. besides the fit not being great, the dash is really filmsy and where the square hole for the wiper switch is has cracked in the corner....all that being said i did get a lot of compliments on how it looked.

Check out covans thunder road. John Covan split from the original company and started his own. Product quality is much higher and fits much better
