I have a 66 el camino that came with drum front brakes. Then the previos owner convertered to disc.I need to find out what spindle I have.I have a part number from the left hand backing plate---5463565-L.I was told the brakes where a 69 camaro style.I ordered strange engineering front brakes for a 69 camaro and the caliper braket does not fit.It is suppose to fit square from bottom hole to larger top hole on spindle. My top hole is like 3/4" away.Maybe the boss got machined down when they converted.I shimmed the gap and it looks like it might work.Does anybody now what I might have.I would like to get the right parts from strange. Thanks

Sounds to me like you have factory "disc" spindles, but the bracket you bought from Strange is for a "drum" spindle... I'd call Strange and see if they offer a different bracket or shim/spacer for use with a factory "disc" spindle...

You can convert a factory drum spindle into a "disc" spindle by grinding down the upper pad and maybe enlaging the bolt hole...

Since you have the gap, I'd say either the NEW brackets are wrong, or you need a spacer...
