I been having some problems with the car lately.
When I turn the key the starter kicks in but is very loud alot louder than it was... and the car takes alot of tries till it finally kicks in and turns over. Then once I get to where I am going I turn the key to the off position and the car keeps running even when the key is removed. It takes about a min or longer before it shuts down then when it gets close to dieing and kicks and thumps in the motor pretty badly. Not for sure what to shoot for. Its a 1968 Chevy chevelle...

Sounds like you have more than one issue to resolve. Starter may have broken nose. Ignition timing may be too advanced causing run on.

I messed with the distributor alittle and it seemed to help the start up so Ima get that timed this weekend. Now about the not turning off part could this be the ignition lock? Mine seems to be in bad condition considering I can usually take the key out in the start position with the car on, and just turn it on with a screw driver. Would a new ignition lock help fix these problems?

My 72 chevelle does the same thing. after ignition is shut off it keeps running. I found out that the problem is the idle is too high, so i lowered it, now the car doesn't run in drive. The kid i bought it off of had it idiling high so it would run, but now since i tuned it down to a lower idle it wont even drive unless you drive it ruff then it goes, but still wants to stall if it's in anything but park. Sounds like you have the same problem as me bro. Also my flexplate is bad so i have to manual move the motor with a wrench to it skips a few teeth so it starts.... I love my car. heh.
