On a 69's drivers side wiper......

There is a small pin that the flat control arm for the wiper fits over. It has a small head that the arm clips over. How is this removed? Does anyone have a replacement available? Mine is missing the small head!

I had the same problem. I guess my pin wore out after all these years.
I could not find how to replace just the pin. I had to go to a junk yard and find a complete replacement. Not cheap, hard to find.

Mike,

I believe this is a common problem. Mine was broken off, too. When new, there was a small clip that held the articulating arm to the pin. On my car, the clip was still attached to the arm, but it had nothing on the pin to clip onto. The very small diameter of the grooved portion of the pin caused it to become a stress point, and they broke off after much use. As per someone else's suggestion here many months ago, I drilled and tapped the remaining portion of the pin and used a stainless steel screw to reattach the articulating arm.

My car is still inoperative, so I've not had an opportunity to try it out. The person who suggested the fix said he had been using his that way for a long time, and it worked fine. As an alternative, Year One's catalog lists a complete new GM wiper transmission assembly for these cars for about $50.

Bill.... that is an excellent idea! I don't know why I didn't think of that....! DOH, too easy I guess.

Thanks a bunch.
