Finally was able to get the Chromed Fiberglass Bumper from XXXChromePlating installed....

Net weight reduction off the nose is 28 lbs.

My buddies George and Mike at Vintage Auto just north of me fitted lightweight brackets and bolts and got it on for me while I was at work today.

It looks great ! I need to install the directional lights over the weekend but I'll take some pics tomorrow and post them either with or without the lights.

From a look over of the car, you could never tell it was 'glass unless you were looking for it or got up real close.

It aint fair Tom, I refuse to remove weight from my car :D in fact I've added weight with the nitrous that is pretty much useless with this converter, except for adding some mph and a tenth or two. 1.415,6.68 and 8.80 1000ft are my bests to date n/a, which I'm sure you will surpass before long. ;)

LOL Bob,

I removed the weight from the front and am adding the anti-roll bar this weekend, so only a slight decrease in total weight, just pulling it off the right location.

The other night I spun three times due to evening DEW on the track and still ran 127 mph, 0.8 above my previous best. If I had run my typical 1.46 60 ft, it would have been a 10.4x pass....shooting for 10.3x by next Saturday at the Hemmings Musclepalooza Race where I'll put the pro-systems carb on which picks me up another 0.100.

It is readily apparent the motor wants more cam and gear, but that will be for a later time this summer, I may go all out and put in the 4.11's.

How does that chrome hold up on fiberglass? Does it fade or crack easy? Waiting for pic.

Yes, it was dark out and I am picking up the car this morning,

Also, the flash of a camera on chrome is terrible looking.

Still to be determined...I will be racing it on Wed and Saturday and every week the rest of the summer.

It is supposed to be slightly flexible since it is a coating and not a bonding process like you would think for chroming.

I am picking up the car around noon from the body shop and will have pics up this afternoon.

Left off two of the factory brackets and then cut the remaining two brackets to line up the mounting holes and then re-weld them to mount to the factory slots in the frame. Next they were "swiss-cheesed" to end up with brackets that weigh 13 ounces each, yet have the stiffness that GM design provides.

These buddies of mine at this body shop do all kinds of muscle car restorations and paint/body work. Highly recommended, they also race with some nasty (in a good way) barely street legal machines.

That is awesome! The aftermarket headlight bezels for my 74 Chev truck are plastic chrome. I'm surprised nobody is mass producing this stuff, especially with all the plastic chrome on new cars.

I didnt know you could do that to fiberglass. Can any chrome shop do it or is this some special process that only a few places can do?

It is a special coating process, not typical plating in the traditional way.

Cost

The cost of this whole thing was quite a bit from the cost of the bumper itself to the preparation of the raw bumper to fit my turn lights, body work to smooth out ridges, pinholes in the fiberglass, sanding sanding and more sanding, shipping and then fitting it. For lack of time and I despise body work, I paid to have most of the work done. The only thing I did was cut and fit the turn signal lamps and drill and file fit the square holes for the mounting bolts. I did a lot of initial sanding, but left the final fine sanding to experienced body people.

Total cost about $875...I did it over a few years. If you do all the body work, final sanding and fitting and installing you can get by with about $500 including buying the bumper.

I assume there are varying quality in bumpers for a chevelle, camaro, etc... but having a Monte limits my access to 'glass parts to a vendor or two so I am stuck with whatever quality they have.

Thanks for the compliments..

I just put the directionals back in and it really looks like a factory bumper..

We'll see how it holds up and I will report on the durability of it. I'll take a pic or two when I wash it up.
