Hi, I have a 1970 Chevelle SS that I bought a few months ago. The previous owner said he put new brakes on.

My probem is that sometimes my pedal goes almost all the way to the floor before I get any braking action. It typically happens when backing out of the garage, but happened tonight at a stop light. Only happens infrequently.

Any ideas on the cause? I don't think the previous owner of 3 years drove the car much, if at all.

Sounds like a classic master cylinder problem. When a car sits, the seals in the master sit in one spot and can stick in that spot. When the pedal gets pushed, the seals wear which allows fluid to travel past.
