would anybody recommed the use of a mini spool for an everyday driver verses using a limited slip. Cost is the factor in the use of the mini spool or just pay the money for the limited slip.
thanks for any input

dont get a many spool, go ahead and get a full spool! My brother blew up two manys and I use to run a full spool in my 12 bolt 4:56 gears and never had any probs. You will have to get some C clip elimenaters for a spool. And when you turn your tires will sqeel all the time. So its very hard on tires with a spool. But you have a posi for sure.
In a daily driver a spool isn't recommended. Sure you will have guys who say they have driven on the street for years, but that doesn't make it safe. It means they are lucky :) What you save in running the spool you will spend on tires and possibly axles. Weather can also cause you a lot of grief. If you look around you can probably find a deal. Heck I got a nice unit out of the member classifieds here for under $200  (It's only $20 to be a member ;))

Everyday driver.. Forget mini or full spools. If you want strength, fit a Detroit Locker or a well built LSD.
Spools are very hard on axles, chew up good tires, increase your turning circle and make parking a pain. They also provide lots of scary understeer on slippery roads..
You don't want one!
Another vote for NO spool at all. A friend had one, ended up getting the rear rebuilt with an eaton.

If you could put up with the lousy turning, tire tearing, axle binding, the things
are just plain dangerous on damp, wet, or slippery roads.
Believe it or not, a posi can be dangerous on wet roads.
A spool, even worse.

SPOOLS SUCK ON THE STREET PERIOD.there are posi units from EATON that you can set up with from 200-400 lbs of spring pre-load on the clutchs, adn they WILL hook up!
