I will be touching up some areas before shooting the paint and was wondering if I can apply plastic filler over my "Ultra Fill II" acrylic urethane primer/surfacer or do I need to sand down to bare metal? Thanks

Honestly? you want to know? It will work just fine. I will probably get a bunch of guys telling me I'm a hack. smile.gif But think about it, you have a chemically CURED primer that is not going to go anywhere (that is if it is FULLY cured and has no trapped solvents, maybe a number of days old in 65 degree or higher temp and wasn't bombed on) then you have a polyester filler, I would recommend polyester putty like Evercoats "Glaze coat" that will be chemically CURED. As long as you are not making a club sandwich with these products going back and forth and thick coats and what not, it will be fine.

I mean, it is a RECOMMENDED procedure with many epoxy primers.

Sand the primer well with 120, blow it off and spread the polyester putty on there smooth with even pressure to get good adhesion.

NO, it is not the best way to do it. But it is a "realistic" way that will provide good results. If you are after absolute perfection, remove the primer and start over.

My opinion is that the glaze coats stick better to cured paint anyhow,Evercoat even says on the can can be used over 2 componet primer surfacers and sanded oem topcoats!!! Guess I'm a hack too!!

Mike graemlins/waving.gif Mike, I knew that, and forgot to mention it. It does say that on some of the products. On "Metal Glaze" and "Glaze coat" (same product, different color) it says "OEM paint", but no other paints or primers mentioned. "Spot-Lite" is said to be fine over 2K primers and sanded OEM finishes. "Euro Soft" says E-Coat and OEM finishes are fine. "Polyester Glazing Putty" says over "Fully cured, sanded top coats"?

Now, the technology between all these polyester putties are VERY, VERY close if not exactly the same (technology not minute differences in composition). So I think the difference in discription is mainly up to marketing. I would bet if you called Evercoat tech dept they would tell you they will all perform well over a sanded, cured 2K primer or paint.

And by the way, the phone number is right on the literature and you CAN talk to the tech dept. I do it all the time.
