Well, finally found 1 wheel and my spare to fit the front. Just got em painted. Still on the hunt for a couple more wheels. It will have to work for now. Hope I don't have a flat:eek: . I like both looks but can't decide which to go with for CB 06'. What do you think?

Magnums, or Rally's over the steel with caps.

But the steel with caps has a certain look I could get used to.

Cool.

They both look good, but the magnums look better. IMO Dale

Caps! (And I think my vote should count for at least three votes since I donated one or two of those wheels to the cause. :D )

Steels all the way Brother!!

Yes!

Either way has it's charm. Wheels & tires can really set the tone for a vehicle. I guess whatever mood you're in. The Magnums with the wider radials will perform better and they do look sharp, but the skinny wheels have a nice nostagic look and feel if you want to recreate that old 'white knuckle' driving sensation. Run what ya brung!

I like the Magnums, and I think they look good with the SS hood. Helps to give the car more of the SS look. The 14 x 5 steel wheels just aren't deep enough for the muscular look, in my opinion. Now, without the SS hood, the steels would give your El Camino the stealth look; no one would guess there is a L79 lurking under the hood.

The steel wheels and skinny tires spin nice:cool: . I like both ways but i guess it just depends on what mood I'm in.

Definitely Steels and Dogs ..... I do agree Dogs look the best with wider wheels that have a positive offset ....

I'd go with the dog dish look. Those caps flow nicely with the lower trim.

Trust me, I know the decision is difficult.. just look at my web site and click on the smaller pics of my car ... Factory Original Mag Wheel Covers look vs. The Steel Wheels and Redlines... I can't make up my mind these days... I switch to the Mag Wheel Covers for high point Judging, but for overall MUSCLE Stance and LOOK!! The Dogs are sooo cool... I think!

See I'm just the opposite. I love the mag caps on the 66-67, love the Dog Dishes and painted rims on the 68 and SS rims on the 69-70.

Wow I can't believe how many of you guys like the dogs. I've always thought they were cool. The tires on the steel wheels are radials that are a close match to 7.75x14 that would have come on the car. Should I go with bigger tires. Scott

Well, to answer the last question.. I would say Yes.. My car is Bone Stock and I show it that way.. but when I decided to switch up the wheel choice.. as seen on my web site.. I used 15 x 7 Steel Wheels on the F-70 series Redlines ( Non radial ) and it gave it a much tougher/aggressive stance than with the 14 in original steel wheel and tire look..

Your choice... your $$ :)

You know, it's funny how things change over the years. I ordered a new 69 Malibu back in the day with no wheel option checked on the sheet. I planned to put dark centered mags on the car immediately, so why pay for factory Malibu full wheel covers? Went to pick it up when it arrived at the dealer and there it sat with painted wheels and dog dish caps. Yikes! I couldn't get those things off quick enough. Looked like the cheapest granny car in town.

Fast forward 37 years and I really like the looks of 'em.

I think I will drive to CB on the BFG/Magnums and hopefully find someone to haul the steel wheels and dogs. If I can do that I'll change them when I get there. Will anyone have a floor jack with them that I could use?

Dawg Dish--I wish I had some, look good. Do your fenders say 427? Later man--Josh

Nice looking car.

If it were mine, it would be 15" ralleys or dare I say it period correct mags.

Given the choices you've proposed, the doggies.

Again that is a great looking car. Wish it was mine. ;)

Thanks everyone for the input. I will driving to CB 06 on the BFG/Magnums. I found a friend of mine that agreed to haul my steel/dogs to CB. Changing them when I get there. Scott

I prefer the Dogs...

Personally, I do NOT like the Magnums on your car, but that is because I know they are incorrect for '68 and also incorrect for non-SS cars (except the '69 COPOs). Its psychological though, because I do like the magnums on '69/70 SS cars...

I agree and will even take it a step further. Also the BF Goodrich tires ruin it for me. Like Tony said it is a psychological thing. I love the 69-70 SS wheels on a 69 or 70, but....... then those wheels have to have Goodyears or Firestone wide ovals. Any modern Raised white letter tire ruins it for me.

Dont get me wrong, You have a beautiful elcamino, I just prefer the dog dish caps or even the correct rally wheel for 68.

I like the dogs but might add red lines. Never been a big magnum fan but some 15" ARE-style dark centered 5-spoke Torq-Thrust D wheels w/red line tires would look nice for driving.

I agree Dale, that does look nice. I thought red lines might look nice with the dogs too. I like those ARE-style wheels. Would those be "period correct"? If not, what non-OEM wheel would be "Perioid correct" and still look good?

Period correct?? Here's a photo taken in 69 or 70 of a buddy's 68 with American Torq Thrusts. It was even red.

I personally like the magnums best. Did chevy call them magnums when new ?I thought that was a Dodge thing. Just asking ? Like the one guy said, back in the day most people couldn't wait to get rid of the dog dishes. Now it seems they're pretty popular.
