I need to buy a cutoff tool to cut rust out of panels on my 65 SS. My local supplier says the Chicago Pneumatic is a good tool. Has anyone got one, is it good? What other brands are used by body shops guys who demand good service.

Harbor freight sells these, they are good for the hobbiest, I have several of their tools and have had no problems with them. I doubt that they would hold up under heavey, daily use however.

CP is a good brand. It's probably the best of the low end (cost wise) pnuematic tools. I'd get the one with the 90 degree head.

Just make sure you keep them oiled!

I've had a CP "cut-off" tool for several years now, with little to no maintenance http://www.chevelles.com/forum/redface.gif and absolutely No problems. I remember when I purchased it, I needed a "cheapie" to get buy with. I think if this one dies, I'd buy another CP http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif

thanks for the replies. I only expect to do bodywork on one or two cars, so it seems the CP will do the job. Thanks again.

I know that they aren't the same but my father who has been a mechanic for 40ish years has a 1/2" impact wrench from the CP boys that he bought in 1969. (if I remember correctly) He had to send it back to them about 3 yrs ago for repairs. I would say he got his moneys worth out of it.
