I am putting my 72 Chevelle SS up for sale in a couple of weeks. I am a Buick man(87 Grand National) so I am not to familiar with the values of these Chevelles. The car is not a clone, its a true SS but I dont know if it has the original motor or transmission it. It has A/C, disc brakes, slpilt-bench seats with the column shifter. It needs paint and some interior work but overall it is going to make someone a great project car. I dont know if I should put it on EBAY or some other site. Any advice would be appreicated. This is my dream car but I just had a baby and I cant part with my Grand National so the Chevelle has to go. Please let me know what I should ask for it. I dont have pics(sorry) It is red(white stripes) black int. Thanks,

Ed

Hey Ed,There a dime a dozen, So you should give it to me, L.O.L.:D just kidding!!! Check the engine block under the Alt. The #s should match your vin. if they do most likely it's a #s matching car Have you pulled out the back seat to look for the built sheet? Whats the miles on her? With a good paint job at about $3,500- $5,000 Photos would really help. But I would think she should bring over $10,000.00. But it's hard to tell without more info. Check out this site they have alot of Chevelles. And i feel a stock Chevelle is worth more that a slightly modified one. But this is just my opinion, And you know what they say about opinions:rolleyes:Good luck and Congratulations on the new addition.:hurray:

I cant find the build sheet, checked under seat but havent pulled the gas tank. I will check for matching numbers when I get home tonight. I am changing the front fender and I am NOT putting a paint job on it. I am going to try and sell it without dishing out any more $$. The fender had to be changed it had a major dent in it from a parking lot crash. Like I said it needs some TLC. SO if it had paint I could ask $10,000...like it sits I guess I might start at around $6,000 or $7,000. Thanks for the input.

If the #s match and you put the fender on, I'd still look for $10,000 + I've seen junk go for $6,000-$8,000. Take a look a E Bay and check what there getting for them. Clean her up good, Armourall her up, do a little detailing. And you should get a good price.

Too hard to place a general price range without pics and more drivetrain info.

I'm not sure how you can call it an SS in 71-72 without a POP or build sheet?

I did some comparisons from some pics of other cars for sale and it has the 3 round gauge clusters, SS steering wheel, disc brakes, all emblems where they should be...of course someone could have cloned it except for the gauges...they look old and original. That is why I am asking for opinions on this because I dont want to screw anyone over and sell them an "SS" if its actually a clone. What is the 100% certain way of determining this?

Just because the gauges looked old it doesn't mean they are original to the car. I have the round gauges, and when I was going to put them in, I was not going to clean them, to give them the original look.

There is no 100% way to determine if you Chevelle is a true SS without the buildsheet. If it was a 454 that would be a different story, but because it's a 350, nobody knows.

My gauages are old and original but there out of a SS Monte Carlo , so can't go by that either..Hard to tell the true SS sometimes..

So now that everyone has burst my bubble about a true SS...what can I get for the car if I cant document its "SS" status?

I know you had said that you don't have pictures, but is there anyway you can get some? The pictures will help. The value can range from $3,000-$15,000.

I cant load any pics on my computer...its screwed up right now. I guess I am wasting everyones time on this forum without some pics. I do appreciate the input...I will start hunting for the build sheet so I can determine my asking price.
Just to let evreyone know i paid $3000 for it a few months back, from an old man who could not read or write...i felt bad at first but i got over it soon enough. He needed the money and I thought I would keep it. Things have changed and i figure i can make a few $$ on it...thats why I am picking your brains.

71-72 Chevelle VINS should identify engine has BB of which would definitely ID the car a factory SS. Of course you mentioned it was a 350 cid so not sure how to identify it as a Super Sport without a BS or PoP.The price you can get for the car depends greatly on where you are selling it. General pricing can be obtained here on TC with further information provided as well as pics. There are other sources for muscle car pricing in various pricing guides, however in general, I don't put much creedance in them. In summary, car is worth what a buyer is willing to pay and what you are willing to sell for.

87NAT,

Hopefully you can get the info that you need about your car. However, classifed ads are not allowed in the forums. So please refrain from trying to sell your car here. If you need it there is a free classified section here for you to use.

Good Luck and I hope you do well with it.

Does the dash have the seatbelt warning light on it? That is a 1972-only item. Doesn't prove that the dash is original if it's there, but if the light is not there, I would think you might have a clone...

You can also look for things like Boxed rear lower control arms, Rear sway bar. Blacked out grill. and if the SS badge on the rear bumper has the factory mounting holes, (2 bolt holes, left is round the right is oval with a location hole in between) And all these things look like they been on the car. Sometimes By looking at the mounting points of these items you can tell if they came with the car. Or have been on the car for a very long time,ie old mounting bushings, etc Not many clones where made 20 or 30 years ago. Most where put together recently (10-15 years or so) as the cars were being restored and fixed up. Putting together all these factors can help determine What it is. And check to see what other car in the same condition are going for to set a price. Good luck

My apologies R.J.

I am not trying to sell my car on this TECH page. I did not know what area to ask these questions so I picked this one. I have been on TURBOBUICK.COM forums for a few years now and I can honestly say that you chevelle guys are on top of things. I cant believe the response I got to to my questions...its great. I will not post any sales ads on these forums, I will go to EBAY or traderonline. Sorry if I misrepresented myself. I wasnt looking for a buyer right now.
