I was thinking of getting a set of decal stripes from one of the catalogs for my 2 door 69 and was just wondering how nice they are and are they worth getting.Any installation problems, or Tips to pass along?
It looks as if their is a fat strip in the middle and a smaller one above and below it, or is it just one big decal?
I think they come in three pieces for both sides, correct? One for the fender one for the door and one for the 1/4 panel.
I'm sure someone has used them and would like to hear the good, bad, and or ugly experinces.
Thanks
I installed mine. I got mine from Year One and they're exc quality 3M stripes. Yes there are 3 pcs for each side. You need a squeegee for installation. I bought the one made for this but I think a bondo applicator would work. They have a peel off backing and a front side paper strip that you peel off last after they are applied that keeps the 3 stripes spaced and aligned until they're on the paint. Be sure to carefully lay out the locations on your car. I can't stress enough the importance of that. I used short 1" strips of masking tape, spaced about one foot apart, placed to align with the lower edge of the peel off backing (a little wider than the actual stripe). To find locations of the masking tape strips, I first temporarily put the stripes in place with vertical strips of masking tape. It will be hard to get the slight vertical curvature in the stripes with the facing and backing still on them but shape them gradually and it will work. You can't do it after removing the facing or the stripes will kink. Before installing, remove wax from the paint and mix up some water/dishwashing soap, about one teaspoon of soap per gallon of warm water. Put the water solution on just before applying the stripes so you can slide them a bit while positioning. Follow directions on applying and sqeegeeing.
We have a 69 in our club with the SS stripes.

DG ,
I was thinking more in the lines of the stripes that run down the side of the car......Altough that car in the picture is nice as well.
Von, I think I will go for it, but will wait a couple months until it gets warmer out. Just came back from Aruba 3 days ago and we had fricking snow here today !!! This Tan is making me freeze !!
Doesn't sound TOO awful hard to apply, but I know it would be easier if I had 8 arms.
Thanks for you info.

Von have you compared the Year One set to an original set? I am just wondering if there any differences. I know someone here that has a car with the original paint with the original stripes as well. I just curious how they come to a point at the front and the back.
Do all 3 stripes meet in the middle at the fron as well as the back or do the outside pinstripes meet to surround the middle stripe? I have seen them both ways at Chevellabration.
I haven't compared them to a set of known originals in person, but from the photos in '69 brochures and ads, they look identical. The outer stripes surround the middle stripe without touching at the points, front and rear.
