wow, am i ignorant. I was lashng my afr aluminium heads the same way I was doing my cast iron heads, setting them 3 to 4 thou. loose cold. Now I find out that w/ aluminium heads you set them 4 to 6 thou. tight when cold.
Is this true?? What do you guys allow for between cold and hot lash adjustments on alum. heads???

Yes tight is correct, I have mine set at 20 and 22 and the card calls for 25 and 27.

When cold, I set them at .003" tighter than the recommended range... .006" is a little too much, IMO.

Thanks, I'd like to set them hot but it is hard to really warm my car up @ home so I think I'll set them .03 tight and then check them @ the track to see where they end up. We have small car counts @ our track so adjusting btwn rounds is hard. Maybe I could run them @ the end of the night if i go out early before dark. Anyway you confirmed what I was told so thanks.

Mine was done on the dyno so we found that when they were adjusted hot when the motor cooled off these were the numbers I got.

I just checked mine hot and cold again this week. Mine open up .003-.004 when hot

thanks again guys. Maybe .04 tight will be a better starting spot.

This is correct in almost every case I have checked on the dyno.
I adjust them .004 tight cold & they are always very close hot.
Unless of course you also happen to have an aluminum block,,, :D
