HI all. I need some advise. I found a 69 Chevelle for sale for $3800. Its all original, 350CID, 300HP, Auto, Factory air, Factory 12 bolt, Factory disc brakes. The seller is an old man who bought the car new. It has a little rust, but nothing major. Interior is fair but all there. Its Green on green. It has not moved in 10 years. What do you guys think?

As you describe the car it sounds like a very good deal.

Not to Hijack the thread, but does the 300/350 have a single or double fuel line (which carb). I've heard different stories from different experts.

for $3500 you'd be lucky to get a rusted out frame with a rusted out body & blown engine! but it.

I'll go against the grain and say put the money into your 68 :).

Buy it before somebody else does and turns it in to a clone.

Thanks for all the replies? The engine has a quadrajet on it. He said its the factory carb. I'm going to make him an offer in about an hour. I just sold my Trans Am, and this might be a good car for my wife. She wants a chevelle too. Anyway Thanks. Wish me luck. I'll try to get some pics to post.

Sounds great, I hope you get to bring it home.

Also -- Thanks for the quick reply on the carb. That is what I thought – a Quadrajet dual fuel line does not guarantee the car had a factory BB. I think the 350/300, 396/325 & 396/350 all came with identical fuel lines.

I looked a little more toughly this time. There is a hole in the floor on the drivers side about the size of a softball and the frame has been patched. The frame makes me a little leery. He said it hasn’t been wreaked and the frame repair was a rusted out part of the frame. The trunk pan will have to be replaced also. I’ve got him down to $3500 so far. But I don’t know? I know these cars are becoming harder to find and it is 35+ years old. Decisions. Decisions.

How many miles and does it run?

Yes it runs. It fired right up. He said it hasn't been on the road in 10 years but he starts it at least once a month or so. The odometer has rolled over once so it s got about 190K miles on it.

Price seems too high.
I'd pass on it.
It will most likely need an engine rebuild and with that many miles, probably everything else soon enough. Sounds like a money pit to me.

The price is not too far off. but sitting for 10 years? If it was outside I would bet you have some rust from the common spots (leaking rear glass - lower corners) that rusts the trunk out, water collecting in the floor of the car from a leaky winsdhield that you may not see right away.

Frames are not too bad to come by $200-500. I'd start looking for one if yo ubuy this car.

Engine rebulds or crates are not unusual to have to have for a 30+ year old car.

12 bolt is good, if it's a Chevy.

A car sitting for 10 years does not become a driver in a couple weekends. You are likely in for some wiring, tires, brakes, fuel/brake lines, rubber hoses, coolant, radiator, ignition parts, transmission (seals dry up if not driven) and shocks.

Post some pictures.

Maybe this will help you out, last night I stopped by a house in my area that has a 69 chevelle sitting in the garage. I asked the lady if I could take a look at the car, not to buy it, but to just check it out from a stock car point of view. She was very happy that ONE, I didn't want to buy it, and that I took an interest in her car. As I talked with her ( by the way she is 85 years young ) she told me that she had bought the car new and that everytime she goes to the store some body wants to buy it. She has been offered $ 10,000.00 on the spot but she was not interested. It's an original car right down to the original faded tan paint with the thin faded red stripe down the side. 350/ 300 hp. As she said, if I sold it I would have to go out and buy a new car.:)

I payed 2000 for just a plane jane chevelle with a motor and tranny that dont work. Same rust as you described, you should buy the car. They are getting so rare dude. You will regret it if you dont. Its just money bud, and dont let some kid get it and tear it up. Buy it before its destroyed.

Buy the car while you can afford it. They arent getting any cheaper these days. Im still kicking myself for missing a 69SS roller minus engine/trans, back in 1996 I could have gotten for 1500 bucks. Ill never get over that one.

Don't just look at the trunk floor pan... get a flashlight and look at the rear apron (between the window and the trunk) and the trunk gutter rails. Also look from inside the trunk at the inside tray that goes to the top/back seat. If those are gone, you can bet there's alot of work to be done on the backend. If you can do it yourself, you're looking at 3 months worth of work. If you need to have it done, you're looking at $8k (at least) just to clear the rust out of the back end.
