I was just sifting thru some old floppys and came across these pictures.
Years ago I parted out a 1969 SS396 El Camino that was the victim of a fallen oak tree. After I got the body off, I found this bracket attached to the frame. It appears that it had been there since day 1, but who knows. If you look at the side view in the 4th picture, it appears that there is factory undercoating carrying over from the frame to the bracket.
Does anyone have any idea what it might have been for?

I'm certainly not an Elky expert, but that bracket doesn't look to be factory.
Perhaps something mocked up for a side exhaust at one time?

Here's another picture.
The odd thing about this bracket was that it appeared that it could not have been installed with the body on the frame. I didn't look like it would have been possible to get it where it was as the body was blocking this area.
Could this possibly be a tool that a frame straightening shop might have left there during a repair?
I still have this bracket somewhere.
This picture kinda helps to show the location on the frame.

Was that a bbc car/truck? I see the frame stiffeners on the control arms.

Could the Elky have had aftermarket running boards? :) Those were a popular add on back in the day on vans...

I doubt it ever had running boards.
Also, there was no evidence of a bracket on the other side of the car.

its a feeblefetzer support, certain canadian built, bulgaria bound, cummins diesel (185 hp) powered el caminos ("commienski's", as they were marketed there as) all came with this option, a treefall was probably a fitting end (most were crushed when the berlin wall fell) for this extremely rare yet totally worthless vehicle

Obviously it is a one of a kind splindel bracket that creates torque driven engery for complete angle driven turn signal fluid damp'n with a little bit of superoverdrive.... better dig it out of where ever you put it and get it on ebay and you won't ever have to worry about working another day in your life because its gots to be worth a gazillion billion trillion megazillion dollars...
Sorry had...
Seriously... not sure what it is ... sure doesn't look factory to me...
