Buy GM parts to get the best result. I have purchased a replacement (Goodmark I believe) for my 69 Chevelle and am not that impressed. I wish they would use the heavier guage steel that GM used on the originals, but it is probably much harder to work with. Another problem is that the steel is soooo soft that if damaged it will stretch significantly during repair making it difficult. On my next car (69 SS) I will take a long look for used, mostly rust-free fenders and have them acid dipped to remove all rust and start there. If all else fails, NOS parts are still available at various places for $500/ea.

I just bought new ones from my local chevrolet dealer. They retailed for something like $529.00 ea., but if you do your home work, they will sell them to you a lot cheaper. I found the price on GM parts direct, added their exhorbitant shipping price, and ended up at $397.00. I asked the dealer to match that price, and they did so. And I was able to inspect them and make sure I got good parts. They also had the old style light blue GM part numbers still on the fender. Just something to think about!!!!! my 2 cents.

part #3953853 for the pass side, I don't have the driver's number (the fenders and the car are in storage while I move), but I believe the driver's side number is only one digit off. It is either #3953854 or #3953852------I think!! Hope this helps. smile.gif Todd

Is it possible that new fenders are still available for a 69? I didn't even consider that as an option. I wonder what other parts they still have like door skins, 1/4s, etc. that people are overpaying for on Ebay or at swap meets. Some of the repro fenders sell for about $350 and are nowhere near as good as the GM parts.

Had a parts guy swear that they were not available and when I asked him to confirm it he found them in the book. Not sure what else is available.

Not sure what area you're in, but the best price I've found in mine is at Sierra Chevrolet in Duarte (Monrovia?).

Here's a tip--go to gmpartsdirect.com and get into the restoration section, walk through the year, model, etc. and it will list everything gm has in their system for that model that is still available. That's where I got all of my part numbers for my 69. You will be surprized what is still out there! If you see trim pieces on ebay that are "nos" or "original GM" check your dealer; they may still be available. For example, I see the corner grills on ebay all the time "nos" for 30 dollars and up---I bought them a month ago from the dealer for $11.30 ea. just my 2 cents graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Adding to what Eduardo said, sometimes the aftermarket "repo" stuff doesn't line up too good either.

Wow, gmpartsdirect.com is unbelievable! I found the grill for $98 vs. $130 repro and the grill extensions for $9 vs. $15 repro or about the same used on Ebay. My friend can still buy front fenders for his 68 for $319 but they don't seem to be available for the 69 - I am still checking. Thanks so much for the tip, they also show GM trunk paint, bumper bolts, emblems . . . I better get the checkbook ready.

As for the fenders, GM PartsDirect says "unavailable for shipping due to consistant freight damages". They show the driver's side as 3953853 and Pass side as 3953854, reverse of what musclecarmoffet posted. They don't show a price.

Dont forget, GM parts direct adds a hefty shipping charge to all of the prices you see... once the shipping is added, you are up to what you can buy them at the dealer for!!! The shipping is not figured in until you "check out" and there is no discount for several parts in one box. Shipping will be added to all parts. And thanks for catching my mistake guys! smile.gif
