I went to a local paint shop a while back and bought some epoxy primer (DuPont). While I was there, I told the guy that I needed some single-stage semi-gloss black paint to paint suspension parts with.
What he sent me on my way with was:
DuPont Centari 99A, Pitch Black
DuPont 8022S Mid-Temp Reducer
DuPont 4531S Flattener
After reading the back of the Centari can, none of these other products are listed.. it talks about a Hardener that I don't have as well as listing other Part Numbers for the reducer.
Do the things I have go together? I can't call the shop since they won't be open until Tuesday, and I need to get some paint on stuff if I've got the right stuff.
Thanks, y'all.

derek,
Hardener is also a gloss agent so for a flat looking paint you need to avoid using a hardener.
Sounds like he gave you what you need.
Enamel will harden without hardener, just not as quick.

Jakob is right, the hardener makes it much harder to flatten. But not impossible, if you have the right flattener. I believe the correct flatener for mixing with a hardened enamel would be 4528S. Plus, if they didn't give you a mixing ratio chart for your flattener you are out of luck. The flattener is added at different ratios to produce different amounts of gloss. Too much will give you VERY flat, while not enough will just "knock the shine off".
If it were me, I would wait until you can get all the facts before using what they gave you. The hardener is really needed to provide an "Insoluable" finish, one that won't be damaged by spilled fuel and that sort of thing. You can flatten a hardened enamel just fine, using the proper flattener and mixing ratio.

derek,
if you add 40 percent flattener to activated centari it will yield a nice semi-gloss finish. i srpayed some of this today. i have used this a lot and with a lot of experimentation i have found 40 percent makes a nice semi gloss finish.
you will kinda have to play with the reducer a little because the flattener is very thin just like reducer so you won't need to add much reducer.
i usually reduce centari 50 percent so you wont need but a couple "splashes" of reducer about 10 to 20 percent.
hope this helps

Be sure to wear a respirator when spraying hardened enamel, as it will contain the same bad stuff as clearcoat(isocyanides)
