I am looking at a chevelle to buy and was wondering where I could enter the vin number and find out information about this car before purchasing it ? I have the vin # and there are some options on the car that I do not believe are orginal, just wanted to check first. Thanks all, TLee38

Depends on year. "Most" Chevelles don't have option codes in the VIN. Some will denote an engine or SS model. But different years give different results.

OK, got an email from the man, it's a 72 chevelle and the vin he states is
1D37H2R557348, maybe that straightens it out. Thanks for any help and sorry for the screwed up posts. Tony

No, the L in the VIN means the car was assembled at the Los Angeles final assembly plant.

Actually the car is a KC car (VIN#136370K158181) and he's incorrectly calling the Fisher Body plate the VIN plate. The letter "L" is being found on more known SS cars from KC than not and known non-SS cars from KC do not have the "L". But, since there are no power disc brakes I'd be suspicious. Power disc brakes were part of the SS package.

There's research ongoing about KC SS cars with the letter "L" (appearing under the first paint code). If this is where yours is, a photo of it would be valuable.
