: Fitting temp sensor in intake

Hi, I bought a temp gauge (my Malibu only has an idiot light), and looking on the Internet and this board it appears that fitting the sensor at the intake rather than the head is a better idea.
Unfoortunatly I can't find where to fit it. What do I look for? Is it near the thermostat housing?

Thanks

Here is where mine is located on an Edelbrock intake

Some manifolds don't have a bung for one. You have to mount it in the head. (That's what I did on mine). It will just read a little higher. Running mine is about 210 - 215*f.

Ok, my intake manifold doesn't have a hole for this. I can't really fit the sensor where the old one is unless I can find a 9mm -> 20mm thread adapter which I haven't been able to so far.

I was considering drilling a hole in the intake myself, cutting the thread and mounting the new sensor there? Am I being stupid or would that actually be possible and work?

Thanks for any ideas

One alternative would be to get a thermostat gooseneck that has a threaded hole. Not the same as putting it in the manifold but at least you would have a place to mount your sensor.

Chris R: Don't know. It looks very, very original though.

Hi again. If I choose to buy a new intake, what size would the thread for the sensor be?

Thanks

The Edelbrock intake (shown above) has a 1/2 inch hole where the sensor would go. Same size hole as the hole on the other side that is used for the small heater hose bung.
