: Chevella~Bration 06 (Car class ?)
450HPChevelle May 15th, 06, 8:29 PM Hi Guys,
I have a question regarding the classes for the show.
For the stock class, I know its 0-3 changes. If I were to have custom wheels & a different exhaust(factory manifolds), would I still be able to show in the stock class, or should I just run my stock wheels(w/radial tires)?
I like the look of the custom wheels. Has anybody ever had their car in the stock class with custom wheels?
Heres a link that shows my car with the stock wheels and the 18" Chromed Iroc wheels. Whats your thoughts on this?

Thanks,
Brian :)
Dean May 15th, 06, 8:44 PM Do the manifolds look stock?
That's not three changes is it?
ToocoolZ28 May 15th, 06, 9:51 PM I will be teching you in, wheels and tires count for 1 change, exhaust another, you dont have aftermarket gauges do you? A lot of guys dont consider them, but I count them. You should be OK in stock class.
Ron
SSuper Dave May 15th, 06, 10:37 PM Stock is stock, if the wheels are not the type that were available from the factory, then its modified. I don't understand the 1-3 changes thing. A car with mags, headers and under dash gauges is NOT stock, its modified! Flame away.
450HPChevelle May 15th, 06, 10:55 PM The interior is 100% stock, no aftermarket qauges. The engine is 100% stock,
from carb. to the oil pan, including the exhaust manifolds.
The only things that wouldn't be original are the wheels & the exhaust.
The stock wheels have radial tires. So if I had the original wheels on it, would
the radial tires count as 1 change?
Thanks, Brian
onabudget May 15th, 06, 11:00 PM Radials USUALLY don't count as a change, unless your at a real strict judged show. Just bring your Chevelle the way YOU like it best.
Soapbox On
It's About the people, the Chevelles just bring us together.

Not my rules, I just enforce them. Dave, if you have a problem with it discuss it with Chuck. He makes the rules and gives them to us to follow.
Ron
SSuper Dave May 16th, 06, 7:51 AM I have no problem with the rules or those who enforce them, been following them since '98, I just don't agree with all of them :) Radials, service replacment parts, belts hoses etc are ok, but not mags. Win or lose, mods or not, Rob is right, I don't go for the cars, its about the people!
ACES-70 May 16th, 06, 8:09 AM Damn Texans always gotta complain about sumtin :) Wheres Texas Bob and that Nixon guy anyways ?? I dont care wat class I am,, just as long as I am :)
450HPChevelle May 16th, 06, 8:12 AM Guys,
Thanks for all of your opinions. I appreciate it very much.
Ron:
Thanks for all the helpful information you've shared. :)
Rob: I thank you for your helpful insight as well. :)
Dave: You've brought up some excellent points. Thank you! Flame away :D
You've all given me something to think about.

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE May 16th, 06, 11:15 AM What kind of shocks do you have on the car? Are they original style or aftermarket? Radio? Plug wires? ...
Sorry, I'm just always interested when someone says " My car is 100% Stock" except for these two or three things..... there are usually many more things that are not stock and the owner doesn't seem to consider.. this is/has nothing to do with the show or rules.. just in general.

djw May 16th, 06, 11:24 AM Brian....just looked at your photos. In the opinion of one of those "over 50" guys, stay with the stock wheels in the stock class. Beautiful car.
onabudget May 16th, 06, 11:28 AM Mike makes a good point, BUT
I think that many of those items are stock. Like this example, If you bought a 69 Chevelle new and then in 72 had a tune up at the local service station and they installed 'Brand X' replacement cap/wires/plugs etc. Then two years later you brought the car in for tires and they put on a set of radials basically the same size as the originals but of the brand sold at the station. Then a year or two later you need shocks so the station calls his parts supplier and gets a set of 'Brand X'.
You've been driving the car for years and never made any modifications to it. All you did was bring it in for service, when required. You received commercially available replacement parts as done anywhere in the industry.
Is the car stock??? I believe it is, even with 'brand x' replacement parts.
Is the car original??? No its not. I believe that when the stock/modified topic comes up we get a bit confused and stray over to 'original' vs. stock.
Just my .02, and heck I'm always in modified anyway.
CT Mark May 16th, 06, 11:43 AM If it's marginal as to whether you belong in stock or modified, I'd suggest going to modified. These big shows bring out some magnificently restored cars that are gonna have everything right...from a stock perspective. Just go into the modified. Above all, have fun!
elcamino72 May 16th, 06, 12:29 PM In my opinion you have a beautiful car. If it were me, I would get a set of bias ply tires for your original wheels and take it down like that. Your only change at that point would be the exhaust. Again, if it were me, on a car that is that close, I would put on the correct exhaust with the resonators and find the spiral shocks, correct distributor cap, date coded hose clamps and spark plug wires if it does not have it already. You have a beautiful car and you will be up against some NEAR perfect examples, you have a great chance from looking at your pictures.
Enjoy the car with the larger wheels but when you are looking to enter it into a stock class, I would throw on the stock wheels with bias plys and enjoy!
Best of Luck at Chevellabration. I'm hoping to make it down one of these years. I can't this year thanks to studying for the bar exam.
Ark68SS May 16th, 06, 1:03 PM What you have to remember is that this is a participant selected show. I don't even like to use the word "judged" in this format. We all go out on the field and write in the car that we like the best on our ballot. No one's there with a clipboard & judging sheet, and we're there to have fun, make new friends, and look at some of the best Chevelles in the country. Don't get me wrong, I really, really, really, would like to win one of the plaques at CB (that is an blatant plea for your vote :D ) but I'm not gonna get fussy or cry because I didn't.
Enter the class that you want to & go out & have a good time, that's what CB is all about.
Oh, while your walking around with the ballot sheet in your hand, check out that Seafrost Green SS in the 68 Original class. ;) She might deserve your vote.

BillsCamino May 16th, 06, 1:07 PM Class?? What class? I always thought it was just a place to park while partying! :beers:
66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE May 16th, 06, 1:15 PM Yes, These topics always bring up great discussions.. and I like that we are all to the point that we can do just that.. discuss it.. and not argue about it.. everyone has their own point of view. I agree with Rob to the extent that there is a difference between Original and Stock... but with the topic of say, plug wires and shocks... I think we would all have to agree that if a car pulls in and has some Big ole Red or Orange plug wires, that is not Stock... or if a say a 66 Chevelle enters a stock class and has Red aftermarket shocks from Summit on it... that is not Stock.... and therefore if it were me and i was teching a car in and saw these things, I'd count them as two changes, exhaust as another, Tires and wheels as another... same goes for the battery.
Best advice here.. for this particular show.. do what you want, what you like.. because it is NOT about the Trophy, it is all about the Fun... The best cars in each class do always seem to rise above the rest despite any small non stock items... if it were me and I had a car that looks as close to Original as the one in these photos.. I'd put the Correct tires on it at the very least!
Mike
ToocoolZ28 May 16th, 06, 5:16 PM What you all need to understand is we dont get down and crawl under the car or check that close. If it looks stock from a cursory look then it goes in stock class. Your car could have a 502 and a 6 speed trans, as long as the engine look stock and you had a 4 speed shift knob you go in stock class. Again, stock is NOT the same as original.
Ron
BillsCamino May 16th, 06, 5:38 PM I tried to enter the Stock class at the Peachstate show two weeks ago.
They wouldn't fall for it...didn't even get out of their chairs. ;)
Even after I pointed out that BOTH high beams were T3's.
I don't understand it... :D
LeoP May 16th, 06, 6:43 PM Mike is really talking about a different ball of wax, some really make sure their car is really stock right down to the shocks and tires. Personally, I like seeing these cars in show outside of the AACA events, it gives you a benchmark as to what the car really was out of the factory, although Mike's, Al Galdi's and Jon Haislips cars are on their own level, among others.
BobFmTyler May 16th, 06, 7:36 PM OK Nick, what year is the air in your tires? What about that aftermarket gas and oil? (damned hot rodders :) )
Robinls5 May 16th, 06, 8:01 PM Last year Chuck put my 70 SS 454 RED Sta. Wgn. In with the 71 Mod. Cars. The only changes I made were-Its a 71 body with a 70 frt. clip. one or two other changes include 71 caddy rad--84-BB with 70 intake and carb--72 hidden wipers--70 SS wheels--70 SS grn dash--Some kind of "A" body buckets--S-10 Console--Domed hood with stripes--SS grill with correct trim--Gray front shocks"gas"--12 bolt rear with sway bar--1 1/4" front sway bar--72-4-door, int. panels--70 El Camino tailgate trim--72 chevelle 4 door rain gutter trim--wheel house mouldings from my El Camino 1970 used stuff--So if you remember last year, I told chuck its a 71. Thats why it was with the 71s Bringing my 1/2 Ton truck this year. Its not like the wagon. 70 owners--The screws that hold the wheel house mouldings. If they are org, You will see a triangle stamped on the head. The triangle is about 1/32" per side. El Camino trivia--All Caminos 68-72 had fact. air shocks--Chevrolet never built a 68-72 El Camino with F-41 Suspension. What major exterior sheet metal parts can you swap from a 70 camino to a 70 chevelle? The hood!! I found out 70 Caminos had no smog equip. It was built under truck emission standards. If you see two metal plates by the shock mounts on a rear end. Its a camino rear, The metal plates would keep stones from hitting the air bags on the factory air shocks. " What DA TRUCK" Bob
450HPChevelle May 16th, 06, 8:17 PM Well guys,
I've been doing some hard thinkin.
You've convinced me that if I were to show up with the Chrome wheels in the stock class, I'd stick out like a sore thumb. So, I've decided to put the stock wheels back on for the show. Man, you guys can be so persuading. :D
I know its our cars that bring us together, and that is what matters the most. I can't wait to go! :D Hope you all stop by the car and introduce yourselves.
By the way I'll have a small Red "Beanie Baby bear" with a black Bowtie sitting in the car. (dealer installed of course) Please don't feed it! :D
I'd like to put a set of Firestone Wide ovals on, but I think the "NOS" air would be the toughest thing too find, so I'll stick with the Radial tires for now. :)
See you at the show guys!
Thanks again, Brian

Bill, I can't believe they treated you that way. Maybe you didn't give them enough money at the gate. I didn't have any problems:p
BB_Mike May 17th, 06, 10:58 PM Good choice brian. It's not so much the technicalities of it, as it is the percieved "aura" that you car will project at first/second glance. If I saw those wheels in the stock class, I think you got tech'd wrong... then Ron would get upset at me and before you know it my beer-buzz is gone. :D
ps. I entered as pro-street two years ago. Only because I wouldn't win anything in modified, and the pro-street was the best parking for exiting at the end of the day. ;)
Jerry Briggs May 18th, 06, 10:31 AM I found an old compressor from a garage that closed in the late 60's, still had some original air in the storage tank:rolleyes: if anyone needs it for the original class. Jb
BillsCamino May 18th, 06, 10:42 AM I found an old compressor from a garage that closed in the late 60's, still had some original air in the storage tank:rolleyes: if anyone needs it for the original class. Jb
Wow...'60s air, Jerry.
No telling what's in it but I bet is some good s***. :p
450HPChevelle May 18th, 06, 3:19 PM Jerry,
If I were you,
I'd get that stuff on E-bay!
In the desription say its original tire air from an LS-6. :D
You'd probably get a small fortune for it. :D
