Hi, I just found this site and im purchasing a 1969 chevelle with a 305 motor from a camaro in it. I was wondering if I could bore it out to a 400. Thanks in advance!
I'll apologize now because I will probably ask 100 questons before the year's over.

Welcome!
A 400 SBC is a 4.125" bore...way to much to try and get out of a 305 (or 350 for that matter) block.

The 305 is a halfway decent motor, but I wouldn't bother with it. See if you can find a 350 block and stroke it to 383 cubes or, better yet, find a big block!

Ok, thanks again guys, I will look for another block. I have a 2nd question and it should be it for a while. What is a good manual transmission that will handle serious hp and torque?

If you can find a 400 block, use it!!! Lots of power from a small block.

How much is serious?? Almost any manual transmission would hold up with 305 if thats what your asking.

But those 6k clutch dumps with slicks will kill most manual trannies in a relatively short amount of time.

I was talking about for a larger engine and I put that question in the driveline forum.
