Hi all,

I am a new member referreed over by the ChevellePages YahooGroups.

I have a black over red 66 Chevy Malibu Chevelle convertible with about 77K miles. I am the second owner. Bought it from the widow of a client three years ago. I have made the car drivable but it needs a bunch of body and interior work. I have been trying to find the time to do or supervise it. But the last time I spent much time working on a car I was driving a 61 Plymouth fury in 1971.

Car is a 283, two speed, red with black top and inside. Body is in OK shape but need all new chrome stuff. Interior is shot and needs to be done completely including the top.

Between wife, work, kids (6+8) and spiritual growth the Chevy just keeps getting pushed down on the list.

My big issue for the moment is that the split bench is very uncomfortable for me -- I am a big guy. So I have been looking for different seats that would look good in the car. I am going to get the whole inside done so I don't care about the condition of the replacements. I would like headrests and perhaps a way to put in shoulder restraint device in the outer corner of the seat. Any suggestions about this?

I like the car and will keep it (it is not for sale!) but I am a bit tired (wife is tired too) of having it sitting in the driveway covered with a blue tarp most of the time and only driven on Sundays with the top down because the top looks so crappy.

It would be fun to find someone in the Los Angeles area that might be willing to supervise and consult on the fixing up of this car. I am not looking for a show car, but do want something nice to drive and think I might keep it for 10 or 15 years.

Any thoughts, comments or advice out there?

BTW, do these posts automatically get forwarded to my regular email address or do I come here to get them?

Welcome to TC Larry, a great site to learn everything about your 'velle. There is truly a ton of info here, with some very very knowledgeable people. I love the '66's also. I cant help with your interior problem, but Im sure others here will have some input. Also, as you look around the site, try to post your questions in the appropriate sections...maybe interior for the seat questions? That way, you'll get the most views on your particular question. And as far as the posts, you have to set that part up yourself. I just come in here myself a few times a day (yes, it's addicting!) to read the posts, but if you want your subscribed posts to go to your email, you can set it up that way. Up at the top of the page, on the left side, look for user CP (user control panel) Go in there, and you will be able to set up your email thing, and lots of other stuff as well. Good luck, and have fun with your car. John

Welcome Larry, a 66 ragtop is a great start. Make time to work on it one way or another, you'll be glad you did (and so will your wife), when it's done.

Welcome Larry!

Since I don't live in your area I can't recommend anyone in particular, but you should be able to get some comments from the "interior section" on this site.

Also, I am sure there are some fine car clubs and cruising spots in L.A.
If I were looking to find a reputable place for working on my car, I would start talking to the members of the local clubs and go to the cruise spots and ask questions.

Good luck,
Tim
