Hi,

Just found this site, and am happy to become a member. I am a long time owner of Chevelles. Had a new one in '68 (SS396) and '70 (SS454). I have had my current one since 1984. I purchased it out of San Diego while living & working in Alaska. It's a keeper. . .:D . Nice to be on board. . .:hurray:

Hey Scott...Welcome to the site. Do you have any pictures of the 68 or the 70 from the old days? Be neat to see them if you do.

Tony,

I'm sure I do in albums. Now, just to find the albums. . .Naturally they are just photo's as back then, there wasn't any digital/computers. I don't have a scanner, but I think my daughter does. I'll see what I can come up with. I've got pic's of the current SS, but not sure just how to post them here. . .I think I'll have to get the help of the daughter. . . .she grew up with these things.

Thanks all for the welcome. . .I appreciate it

Hey Scott...About all I can do on the computer is get to the car sites and search. If you get a chance to put the pictures on, I am sure a lot of us would enjoy them. Did you leave them stock or modify them? I like the stockers best, but also like the hot rods. I just built a 70 Nova witha 427 in it. Lots of fun. Again, welcome.

Tony;

The first ones (68 & 70) I did little things, tires/mags/manifolds/carbs but nothing else. I just fell in love with them. Always went back to original eventually.

The current 70 SS is bone stock, except for tires. I do have a set of reproduction Goodyear Polyglas that are mounted on a set of SS wheels that I used to put on when I took it to shows. I am now running a set of SS with BFG T/A's for road use.

The car has a little history with it, and that's one reason I left it bone stock. I'm the 3rd owner of the car. The first owner was the Service Manager of Celozi Eddelson Chevy in Elk Grove Village (sub of Chicago). He special ordered the car. He then gave it to his son, and in '84 his son decided to sell the car. Back then, Super chevy Magazine had a "Swap & Sell" section. I had met Doug Marion (then Editor of Super Chevy Magazine) at a Super Chevy Show, and he knew I was looking for another one. This one came into the mag to go in the sell section, and Doug gave me a call in Alaska (where I was living at the time). I gave the guy a call, and he described it to me. It just happened to be a Friday, so I ask him to hold it, I was catching a flight the next morning to San Diego. The only thing the car did not have, was a 4 speed, and buckets. It was a turbo 400, and a bench seat. I got there Saturday about noon, money changed hands and I was on my way driving back to LA by 2:00pm. He had sold the car, to get the down payment for a new Mustang. . . "Thank you Lord. . ."

I called Doug at his home, told him I was on the way. I got to his house about 4:30pm, and we went over it with a fine tooth comb. Little door dings, couple chips on the door edges, but other than that, immaculate. Doug let me leave it at his house (even moved a project SS Monte Carlo out) and put it inside for me. I flew back to Alaska.

Ohhh, did I forget to mention, it had won the "Best Original Chevelle at the very first Super Chevy Event in Orange County back in 1983. They weren't quite as picky then, as they are now. It's still got the Window Decal on the rear window to prove it.

the story gets longer and longer, and maybe that's for another day, or. . . .:boring: Hope I didn't bore you to death. . .:clonk:

Nope, you didn't bore me. Cool story. I enjoy hearing things like that. I talked to a guy a while back that worked at the Flint assembly plant when they were making these cars. He knew a lot about things from back then.

I will do my best when I get home this weekend, to get my daughter to help me post some pictures. As I've stated, I don't know a whole lot about computers (just enough to get me in trouble) but I should be home for a couple weeks, and will try and get it done. . .Thanks for all the kind remarks. . I do appreciate it.:D
