: Installing wires from door to under dash

I'm in the process of installing an Autoloc keyless entry system/alarm in my car and I need to run wires from the door to underneath the dash. What's the best way to do this?

I'd need to remove the door do what seems best, run it the shortest route possible, that really doesn't sound appealing. What kind of wire loom would you use to neaten it up? There's 5 wires that have to run through this area. I know I'd need grommets to keep the wire from chafing, guess I'd just like to hear from someone that's done this before.

Thanks!

Ledsled. In my younger days I converted my 66 windows to power windows. To get the wiring from the door into the car I used a piece of "garden" hose. With the door mounted, I drilled the 9/16 holes in the door and the pillar, wasn't easy though. I positioned the hole in the pillar right at the factory punch. I positioned the hole in the door some 4 inches lower to give the hose slack when opening the door. Try to avoid drilling in the hinge reinforcement in the door. Drilling larges holes with the door mounted is nearly impossible.

In my current 66 project I used the rubber wiring boots from the front doors of a Buick Park Avenue from the bone yard. The doors were out now! I used a hole saw to make the holes. The best picture I have now is http://www.si.hhs.nl/~rob/images/scanned/347d_ass_prop_shft.jpg but I could make some digital pictures if you want me to.

I would pull a set of rubber pieces from a later model car with power windows or locks. They are weather tight and flexible, and will look factory when installed. You will have to pull the fenders to get enough room to open up holes, but it will look very clean when done...or if factory isnt what you want, there are contact sets made for the street rod crowd which are spring loaded contacts in a case. Install one in the door, on in the jam, and when the door is closed the contacts touch allowing the power option to work. With the door open there is no power flow though, I do not know if that would be a problem with the alarm system.
