Eventually when I tear into my Elky rust is a big problem I'll have to deal with. I was wondering, what's a better way to repair it, with custom-made sheetmetal, or donor pieces? I think on mine I'll have to use both, but any input is appreciated.
The donor stuff would have to be wheelhouses, quarter panels maybe the bottoms of the cowl and basically the stuff that is diffucult to form. The pieces that might have to be custom made I imagine would be the bed supports underneath and areas around the floor pans that repro pieces don't get to. Body mounts have some rot too, on a few the bottom caved in :eek!: so I'm not sure about them. For now, I'm just trying to preserve whats left. The frame is fine though, go figure. Thanks!

No Fair.... You answered your own question.. I had too custom make some pieces in my trunk where the repop panel didn't reach.. if you take your time it'll go unnoticed.. Good Luck!

Shawn, have you done anything to the Elky? I mean something to change the pics you have had on your web site?

It's been a while since I've worked on the website, or the El Camino.. I've been so caught up in personal issues in the past three months I havent had time! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The most recent thing I did was pull the fender and overhaul the evaporator box but now I need to do it again (really noisy fan) and I gotta pull the control unit out of the dash to replace the switch since the old one burned itself out. The HEI coil just went on the car the other day too, along with a dead battery leaving me in a parking lot not too far from college but I missed two classes. Alternator belt could use replacing too, it's cracked and has a hunk missing out of it. I had to replace two tires too since I got pulled over speeding for doing 59 in a 40 (which was after I slowed down from doing 80 http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif ). Nice cop though, he let me go for having a bald tire instead of a speeding ticket. I wouldn't normally speed (let alone that fast), especially in a speed zone but it was to catch up to a girl I like, and to make a long story short I saw she had a guy in the car so I was curious what was up. See what happens when you neglect your car?! It falls apart! Over the winter I plan on catching up with all that needs fixing though.
Overall it's been running great and drives real smooth with no bad vibes or anything, just needs a steering box, alignment, new A-arm bushing(s) and a brake adjustment. Simple stuff. Not bad for a rusted out car that's been on the road for 32 years unrestored! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif Thanks for the help!
