Can people display their cars and not compete? I'm planning to attend, but not willing to park my car far where I can not see it. I would pay just to display. Anyone going from Southern. MD? Anyone has a physical address to the show I can map quest it. The show has not started and the competition is alrady fierce.

Thanks

Luis, You need to be an AACA member to bring a car to an AACA show....and I think you need to reserve a spot. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure you are not required to compete at any AACA National meet. I know I've been at Hershey and seen dozens of cars that were clearly not there to compete....car is closed & locked and no sign of the owner. The cars just sit there like they were in the parking lot at the mall.

I might have to take a day trip down to this one. I don't have anything else to do that weekend.

Luis... I'm pretty sure you have to have the AACA senior award to put your car in this show. This is not a regular meet. This is the Grand National meet which is held every other year in the east and in the west on the other year. You have to get the AACA junior, then the senior, then you can go for the grand national. The guys I mentioned above are all going for the same GN except Mike who has the junior grand national already. As far as putting your car out there for display only, I wouldn't think so, I would call, if no one else here knows for sure.
The AACA Grand National show this year will be at the Dover Downs Hotel and Conference center in Dover De. ... June 15th - 17th..

Thanks Bill, I just received an email from a friend in PA who is taking his Canadian built Chevelle to the show. He is shooting for at least 390 points. I might just drop by to see.

Again, thank you

Bill is correct.. The AACA Show in Dover, is the Grand National... which, like every other AACA show is only open to Active AACA members to show cars ( spectators are always welcome ). BUT.. The Grand National is only open to those that are already AACA National Senior 1st Place winners or AACA Jr. Grand National 1st Place winners. The event is awesome, as these cars are the BEST of the BEST and the point range to win is very tight!!

See everyone there!! :beers:

I know of 5 other TC'ers who will be there. Albert(ALSS), Rich(richr),
Brian (RESQ302), Dario(68SS396L35) and me. All in the same class. Should be a good day.
Don't forget those fire extinguishers. AACA rule.

Delaware Welcomes You to the 2006 AACA Annual Grand National Meet Hosted by the Brandywine Region AACA June 15 ~ 17, 2006 Event Hotel: Dover Downs Hotel & Conference Center 1-866-473-7378 1311 North DuPont Hwy, Dover, DE 19901 (www.doverdowns.com/hotel)

Is the show actually held at the hotel? I have no other info on where we are supposed to pick up registation info, etc. Also is this show different than the others? We are competing against each other, or is it just to make a certain score.

See you guys there

I'm not sure if you are attempting to get your AACA Grand National 1st JR or AACA GN Senior?

But.... Below is right from the handbook... AACA is always about the points not the car next to you or a few cars down the row... TECHNICALLY that is.. but in reality.. you are really competing against whatever car scores highest in your class in order to meet the spread.

13. Judging at an A.G.N.M. will be conducted
in the same manner as any
other National Meet. The point minimum
and point spreads for the winners
differ from other National
Meets as follows:
a. The highest scoring vehicle in a
class at or above the 380 minimum
is a First Prize winner, together
with all other vehicles scoring within
five (5) points thereof and at or
above the 380 minimum.
b. The vehicle whose score is six (6)
or more points below the top scor84
ing First Prize winner and at or
above the 370 point minimum is
the Second Prize winner, together
with all others scoring within five
(5) points thereof, and at or above
the 370 minimum.
c. The vehicle whose score is six (6)
or more points below the top scoring
Second Prize winner and at or
above 360 points, is the Third Prize
winner, together with all other vehicles
scoring within five (5) points,
and at or above the 360 minimum.
d. All AACA Annual Grand National
First Prize winners are eligible to
compete for the AGNM Senior
Award. This award is given to all
vehicles scoring 390 or above in
the AGNM Senior category. This
award can be won repeatedly at an
AGNM.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. I believe this is going for my Junior Grand National, since this the first time I'm going to any National event. Is the show right inthe parking lot of the Dover Downs hotel?

See you Saturday

Rich Recupero and I, have been discusing this and this is what he was able to find out:

The Dover Downs Hotel is where the event will be, which is in the Dover Race Track Complex. We will enter through the main
entrance and they will instruct us where to park our trailers.

Jun 14th, 06, 3:14 PM
I'm staying at a different hotel right up the street, so I guess I will just drive the car over so that I don't have to worry about the trailer. Whats your cell #, I will call you when I get there on Friday afternoon so we can figure out where to get the registration package.

That's correct Bill.. on the location.... cars will be shown on Pavement, Trailers will be parked on grass and I am told very close to show area. Will be Secure too! I am not getting a Room.. just coming for the day with my 9yr. old daughter. Once you get in they will insruct on the particulars of registration and parking, etc... Be nice if we all go to park in same line..

I hope to be unloading by 8:30 ish, maybe a bit earlier., I have your Cell Bill and I think you have mine.

Dario

Yes, sounds like you are going for the GN 1st Place Junior.. so you are dealing with that strict point spread mentioned above... I am only needing to get 390 points or better and I get the Senior no matter what the other cars in my class get points wise. I am told there are about 600 cars comming! :hurray:

Update: Reg pick-up will be at the host hotel till 5:00 PM on Fri and at the showfield on Sat. So for those coming in on Fri, you can do the reg stuff Fri.

Mike give me a call when you get there Sat. In a dicussion earlier today with Rich, he told me he was not in the muscle car class. They had moved him at Hershey to class 27 (production car 1970-71) because his car is a 396 and not a 454. Most of the 36B class, are 396 cars though. Is he the only one who was moved to another class, other than 36B (muscle cars)??? ... I'm wondering who else is in a different class. If anyone is in a different class, they can't park with the 36B cars, right????

66 MYSTERY CHEVELLE
Jun 14th, 06, 4:38 PM
Not sure why that is for Rich.. I know that I received my 1st plcae JR and SR titles while in the Production class, before they created the Muscle Car/High Perf. Class. and then was switched to the Class 36b when I went to Buffalo for my GN...

I believe for some strange reason they put the Pre 70 396 cars in Muscle Class but the 70's and up in production unless they are 454's... but Rich should go to the AACA site and ask on the Board there.. get the correct answer before Sat. when things will be hectic. No, only those in the specified class can park together.. but we would all need to literally drive in together.. they don't save spots! :) and of course there will be many cars in the 36B class but some will be going for their JR and others for their SR, so we are not all going up against each other that resort..

Mike

I will call you Sat. am from the road

Bill Rose
Jun 14th, 06, 5:07 PM
Sounds like anyone who wants to park together in the 36B class, should all hook up in the trailer parking area or some other area just before entering the show field. We will be there Fri and will look for a spot to meet. Plan on a 9:00 am entry time??

My cell # is 908-247-5350. I saw a guy out here at a local cruise night and he is going to be there Sat. as well. He told me about hte show ans it sounds like a good time. Are all you guys staying at the host hotel? If the show field is close enough I may just drive the car over and leave the trailer at the hotel.

Bill Rose
Jun 15th, 06, 8:31 AM
Dario... Me, Albert, and Rich will be at the host hotel. If you wanna leave your trailer at your hotel thats your call, but with this crowd coming, they may not want someone taking 10 or 12 parking spots. I'd ask, unless they have a spot along a curb or some other out of the way parking spot.

68SS396L35
Jun 15th, 06, 9:24 AM
Yeah, good point Bill, I may have to unload it at the show field on Friday then. I'll give you a call when I get down there, should be by 3pm or so.

Gee Mike..... are you sure that bucket O bolts can score 390+ points???Ha!!

:D Now that I read that, it did come off as arrogant... :o didn't mean it that way... 390 points out of 400 is not easy... but less difficult than the JR Grand National where you have to be within a certain amt. of points of the highest scoring car in class. This old bucket may ... just may.. have one win left in her. ;)

Bill, That sounds like a plan.. trailer parking area around 9am!! Cell calls prior to see if everyone is on time!

If only the AACA could get the designated trailer area worked out at Hershey. :( Last time I went, the trailer area was a cow pasture...literally!!!:clonk:

I'm planning to go on Saturday for a bit...with the family. Taking a little detour on our way to the Jersey Shore. Looking forward to it!
