: need help from a 65 owner
blumont Feb 12th, 03, 6:23 PM Replacing rear quarters on my 65. The drop offs from the trunk extend down behind the back wheel opening. The rear quarter panel should wrap around and fasten to this dropoff. Problem is my dropoffs ( not sure of correct name) are rusted off at the bottom. Can someone tell me if the angle at the bottom of the dropoffs is parallel with the ground or does it angle slightly towards the ground. I believe it should angle down to match the contour of the quarter panel. I have to build one as no replacements are available I believe. Sorry for long post just tough to explain

blumont Feb 12th, 03, 10:25 PM Thank you, I knew the way I explained it might be a lil confusing. I need a picture of behind the rear wheel opening to the rear bumper area where the quarter wraps around down under the rocker. There is a support that comes down from the trunk pan with an angle on the bottom, basically it is similiar to an I beam, welded up to trunk floor and quarter attaches at the bottom. Getting more confusing? lol sorry
This "I" beam runs parallel with the frame. OK, lol. Anyways mine is rotted off on the bottom and I just need to know if the bottom of that "I" beam looks like. Man o man ramblin on and on. A case where a picture could say a million words.
Really appreciate your help

bhawk Feb 12th, 03, 11:02 PM People refer to those pieces, one on each side of trunk, as trunk drop offs. You are correct, no one yet makes repos. I have a 65 and am now doing the quarter panel install on each side. My drop offs were rotted at the bottom like yours. To answer your question, the drop offs are not parallel to the ground, but are angled , say about 45%. What I did is install the quarter panel with screws and clamps to hold it in place, then fabricated pieces to attach to your old drop offs, and make whatever angle is called for to match it up against the bottom of the rear quarter panel. Then weld in the quarter panel, and last, weld the trunk drop off to the bottom of the quarter, Thats what I did anyway, worked ok. Sorry, don't have a camera to take digital photos.
blumont Feb 12th, 03, 11:11 PM Thanks BHawk, thats what I figured. Are the quarters supposed to wrap around the bottom of the drop offs or just cut flush with the end and welded and sealed? Sounds like you are going through the same process as I am.Once again thanks for the info.
derekf Feb 13th, 03, 9:14 AM Goodmark says they'll be reproducing the dropoffs for 64-65s in 6 to 9 months at 59.95 each.
bhawk Feb 13th, 03, 9:46 AM blumont, the quarter wraps around the drop offs and extends well past the drop offs, say about 4 inches or so. You will not be cutting the quarter panel off flush with the drop. As of Goodmark making the drop offs in 9 months, I wouldn't hold my breath. They told me over a year ago that they would have inner wheelhouses for the 65 available by early fall 2002, and none yet. So I patched my originals.

bhawk Feb 13th, 03, 9:52 PM I just came back from looking at my car. The quarters do not extend 4 inches past the trunk drop off as I suggested above. They extend about an inch and a half past. The angle looks about 45 degrees.
blumont Feb 13th, 03, 9:57 PM thanks Ed and Bhawk. Made one up tonight, tried it, have to redo it tomorrow night lol. Cut it 3 times and its still too short
