Maybe a dumb question but here goes ....I have 3" studs in my axles and they too long , so no problem to cut with a cut off wheel but wondering how to make a nice clean tapered end ?? or do I just cut off and run a die over the end to clean up threads

wouldn't it be easier to buy shorter studs? the old ones drive right out and you can pull the new ones in using lug nuts. studs are cheap

I don't know if this is the right way or not. But a friend just cut his with the cutting wheel, but he put the nuts on before he cut it, then just took the nut off to clean the threads. It worked for him, but again, not sure if that's the right way or not.

The studs can be cut off and then dressed with a die grinder. Like Cesar said, put a nut on the stud before cutting and as you back off the nut it will clean up the threads, if necessary. You WILL be very tired of cutting and grinding once you have completed the ten studs. It is much quicker and easier to replace the studs with ones of the correct length, if they are available.

My son has the same problem, rally wheels and long wheel studs, I told him to cut 5 evenly spaced holes around the rally center cap and put them on :D He didnt think too much of that idea.
