I'm restoring the dash and instruments in my '70 Chevelle SS and bought a new clock for it. I'm pretty sure the orange wire in the harness connects to the tab on the back of the clock but there's another tab on one of the lights toward the top right of the clock (looking from the back) that I can't figure out and I can't find anything in any wiring diagrams either. If anyone knows what connects there, I'd really appreciate hearing about it. However, if it's nothing to worry about, I'll just ignore it and blunder on.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The orange wire is for the clock.I just looked at an original 70 ss cluster with the original factory clock and there is only 1 tab on it for the orange wire.

Do you have the new reproduction quartz clock ?

Maybe its just a ground connection ?

Good luck

It is a new quartz clock and has just one tab on the clock itself, just like the original. The one I'm curious about is a tab that's actually attached to the instrument light bulb holder that connects to the cluster housing and sits immediately to the top right corner of the clock but not actually part of the clock. Wish I knew how to get a picture attached to this so I could show you what I mean.

My guess is that it is a broken fiber optic light socket that would have a fiber optic connection from the socket to the ash tray. This was an option on some cars. The light socket should work just fine with this fiber optic cable missing or replace with another socket.

Steve,

That sort of rings a familiar bell. I kind of remember a cable going to the ash tray when I took the dash out but it's been a couple of months so I'm a little foggy on the details. I took a lot of pictures and tried to label stuff but I bet this one got away. I'll check it tonight.

Thanks to you and s5757s for the input. It really helps.
