Has anyone ever made their own Brake light lens es?
I want to make some that are the same size and shape as 67 tail lights but make them smooth and solid red.
I can make the molds but what type material should the lenses be made out of.
Just a long shot thanks.

I can't answer your question Steve, but I'd be interested in a pair myself. If you ever get to make these, let me know!

Please beware this might be illegal. All factory lens have DOT approval and are stamped so. (Department Of Transportation) meaning that meet certain requirements for allowing light to pass thru them and reflect lights of cars in the rear. If you have inspections or get into a fender-bender this could be a problem.
Just my $.02

I also would question the legality of these.
I think that the "molded in" letters are a reference to "SAE", which is Society of Automotive Engineers.

All the law says is that your taillights must be red (or amber), and be visible from at least 500 feet in daylight. (At least here in this state) I would imagine most states are the same.

There are alot of customs out there that have home made lens. I agree with the 500 ft rule. You may be able to find materail already then cut shape and mold to the specs you want. just an idea.

The mold to fit thing will not work because heat clouds most plastics, trust me.
The way your want to do it is a resin cast mold. Make your mothermold out of a plaster the reflects the negative image of what you wnat then fill with clay and then fire the out come. glaze for smoothness and aay you go. You nned to make 2 mothers, one of plaster and one of clay.
