I've been trying for several weeks to paint my doors. I am doing black BC/CC and I'm a beginner, not a good combo. I have decided to have them painted by someone who knows what they are doing, in a paint booth. I have several flaws and more paint than I need so I want to take the paint off. My question is what is the best way to do this? Should I go to bare metal or try to get down to the primer (which might be tricky and time consuming)?

If yur gonna have someone else do it ya mine as well just leave it on, maybe they can still make something of it. Glossy black BC/CC is prolly the absolute hardest color to paint. I wouldnt feel bad not being able to do that yet hehe. You dont nessasarily need a paint booth to do a nice paint job. Some of the best paint jobs in the world have been done in driveways, you can do little tricks like watering down the concrete before you spray. Usually the problem is dust or bugs floating in the air, but if you pick the right time of day to paint u can for the most part eliminate the bugs:)

Well, If you already have a ton of product on there, maybe give it a good block sand with 400 wet. No need to get back down to the primer.
Just block it out nice with 400.
With black, I'd probably finish off with 600 wet.

I was all excited about my last effort, came out to shoot a second coat of clear and found a spider firmly planted in the first coat. Haven't been able to sand out the defect he left

Well I did some sanding last night with the 400 grit, it's pretty slow going. After an hour of sanding I haven't made it through the latest coats of clear, is there a way that is going to speed up the process?
