How wide should the gap be between the back of the door and the body?

I read a post talking about this before, but there were no answers. My manual has the correct gaps between all the other panels, but there is none shown for this.

Charles,

My 69' factory assy manual shows only the door to front fender gap at .18 inches (about 3/16 of an inch). This gap in the perfect world should be about the same across the bottom as well as between the door and quarter panel. Believe me when I tell you it will not be perfect.

a wood paint stir stck is what I use for gaps, back of the door possibly will be a hair wider.

so 3/16" gap around door in front AND back?

I guess the real way to determine the gap is to set it so the latch hits the striker in the center.
