I just purchased a fiberglass cowl hood and I would like to fit it before I send the car off to the body shop to be painted. The lip needs to be trimmed in a couple of places along each side. I've done lots of mechanical work, but never any body work. What is the best way to do this?

Only use a high speed cut-off wheel such as a the ones you can buy for a dremel. You must score the edges before you cut them to help it from fraying. Make sure you dont create too much friction or heat it will damage/burn the material. Pouring a liquid such as water on the glass when you cut it is a good idea.
After cutting it, lightly wet sand the edges moving in one direction, away from the material. This will keep the edge from fraying. Then you need to seal it. Use a 2 part epoxy coat on any area you have exposed.
If you don't follow a process like this, you'll end up with a hood that wont last long at all, or split edges
If you need any more help, email me.
Good Luck
