: 468
mad hooker May 9th, 06, 12:27 AM heys guys i wanted to build a 468 based on a hi-po chevy build that they did. it pumped out 540 hp and around 536tq. anyways i can fully pull the page down to see all of their specs. so if i cant find them would build would you guys recomend for close results? all you guys with 468s please chime in!!!!:)
mad hooker May 9th, 06, 8:42 PM anybody?
79943 May 9th, 06, 9:29 PM here's my build but it would certainly be less than 540 horses....maybe around 475 to 500 as a guestimate. 468; 3999289 four bolt main block; forged 3521 crank; SRP forged pistons 10.3 CR; SCAT forged rods; 3964291 rect heads (2.250/1.88); 3933163 intake; Lunati 50250LUN, Hyd Roller, 242/252 @ .050”, .595”/.612”, 110° cam; pro mangum roller rockers; holley 4780, 800 cfm double pumper carb, ARP studs everywhere. as you can tell i like to stay with factory components as much as possible within reason. dont ask me how it performs since it is going in the vette and the vette is still in "assembly mode". like i say i was going for a strong street build with quality components and a pretty respectable rpm capability, but i'm sure well under your 540 horse goal.
mad hooker May 9th, 06, 9:33 PM sounds pretty good. i want to run this engine on pump gas, and looking for 10.1 comp, anybody else? thanks 79943!
71454Chevelle May 10th, 06, 6:22 AM Here is my combo. Never had it on a dyno but with a good tune I would say a "conservative" guess would be around 540-550hp. Starts making "real good" power around 2500, and pulls hard to 6500 rpms. Runs on 92-94 octance pump gas no problem.
454(.030" overbore)
TRW 2349 Forged pistons (10.0-1 cr)
GM 3/8" Truck Rods (polished, side clearanced, shotpeened, SPS bolts)

(2.19/1.88 valves, 308cfm intake, 200cfm exhaust)
Isky Mechanical Street Roller cam
248 deg @.050" intake
252 deg @.050" exhaust
.638" lift intake
.646" lift exhaust
110 deg LSA (4 deg advanced)
Isky Red Zone Roller lifters
Crower Stainless Steel Roller Rockers (1.8 intake / 1.7 exhaust)

Skier_Bob May 10th, 06, 8:57 PM you should see it, hear it and ride in it! AWESOME in every category. That's why my car is at Chris' shop right now getting a 496 and the engine bay detailed, and new gauges. C&D goes the distance!! If I could post a pic of what Chris has done so far to my engine I would.....
mad hooker May 10th, 06, 9:22 PM i bet it looks killer!

GRN69CHV May 11th, 06, 6:55 PM I basically duplicated the HIPO Checy motor except I used bigger pistons to get the CR up to 10.3/1 and went with a 233/236, .600/.610 112LSA hyd roller. Haven't ran it yet, but can tell you this motor is plenty stout.
mad hooker May 11th, 06, 8:07 PM whick one did you go with? the 468? i wanted to do that one but i cant pull the whole page down, i dont know why. any one else ? please chime in.
GRN69CHV May 11th, 06, 8:25 PM First thing - decide what heads you want to use. Everything builds from there. I picked up a set of new GMPP heads off a ZZ502 motor which are the same as the Edelbrock.
mad hooker May 11th, 06, 8:28 PM yeah. ive seen some good builds with the edelbrock heads, and brodix heads. i think i will go with thew edelbrock heads. now what? hahaha
mad hooker May 14th, 06, 10:24 PM heys guys what if i bought a master rebuild kit? then bough those edelbrock heads, and other hi po parts...? would it hold up and would using a master rebuild kit sacrafice any of the power?

hi!
I got the same tires as you have, but the Sportsman Pro version, what's the traction available when new??? My car's not ready yet, I,m now real nervous about the choice I made!! Please tell me that I can put some power tothe ground with new tires like these!!:clonk:
mad hooker May 17th, 06, 11:51 AM hey what do you guys think of this hipo chevy 468 build? tons of torque low down and lots of horse power. average toque is 515lbs. now is that too much torque down low? like if i build this engine will it be more of a trailer puller? i know i need torque to get my heavy ass elky going but what do you guys think? that is alot of power..
RPM TQ HP
3000 520 297
3500 510 340
4000 530 404
4500 539 461
5000 525 500
5500 509 533
6000 473 540
Motorhead62 May 17th, 06, 12:00 PM Nice Power Curve! Kinda like my 468 combo! :D
Torque is your friend!
Jblack May 17th, 06, 1:49 PM hi!

From what I've heard, the "Pro" versions are better then the regular sportsmans....My car is a 95% street car, so traction isn't a huge issue. I've heard the Hoosier quick times are pretty good , and the M/T E.T street are even better..But driving those on wet roads would be tricky!
My post was more so to point out the 468 engine combo and what it was able to do at the track. Woith better tires I would be deep into the 12's
If yours is going to be a street car, I would worry. But if your going to be doing a lot of track duty, I'd consider something else. JMHO.
