: 70 chevelle ss 454 custom wheels/tires tonyrobertf May 8th, 06, 7:37 PM I have a 1970 chevelle SS454 and am looking to replace the wheels and tires. I am looking at Torque Thrust II's in the 17x7 in front and 17x9.5 in rear. I want as much tire in rear wheel well (with no problems) as I can. I got a 1/2 less of backspacing (5") and I still had to roll rear quarters. It came out good. Go bigger in the rear. I will go w/ 18 x10 on 295/35R18's next. Tuck-up higher. Jay Lee What do you mean roll rear quarters?? cowpunk May 9th, 06, 2:36 PM you turn or "roll" the lip on the inside of the quarter panel to get more room for the outside of wide tires to travel more w/out scrubbing. Jay Lee The 5" backspace is why you had to roll the wheel lips,Jay. A 17x11 needs at least 6" and 6.25" would probably be better. | ||
