the little screws that they hold the dust shield on to the inner fender well?

Screws? are you talking about the a-frame sheilds? they all had staples in them as far as i know.

They are just like the staples you use on paper. I used a screw driver and bent the open side of the staples straight. Then I used a pair of plyers and pulled them out.

Actually they look more like screws, THey have a round hole on the head, and they go all the way through the fender where they look like saultered metal on the other side.
Kind of hard to explain, but they are not like your regular staples.

Are they rivets ? Someone may have replaced the dust shields at some point and riveted them in. If so, I'd just drill them out.

They could be like the plastic pop rivet style fasteners used on some interiors. If there is a hole in the head, try sticking something down the hole to release the holding mechanism.
