: What year are these seats ?
Enganeer May 7th, 06, 2:35 PM I picked up some bucket seats from a fellow Cheveller at a great deal and he said they were low back buckets from a 69'. I could not match the upholstery to any specific year from looking at seat covers from different reproduction supplier websites.
I was thinking 69' and 70' could be interchangeable as far as a 69' seat could be redone as a 70' with the right covers. I was planning on using them for my 70' elky but I think they are earlier than that.
Did Elky's get different seats than regular chevelles?
Not that I am bummed, the seats are in decent shape, If I redo them, I want to make sure that I match up the year they are supposed to be for upholstery. That way if I decide to swap buckets later, at least they are correct for what ever year.
Thanks - John

RAMBO May 7th, 06, 2:48 PM The seats are the 67-68 style with the button on the side like that. Are the backs and bottom skirts metal or plastic? 67 would be metal, 68 would be plastic.
The covers look similar to 67 Impala seat covers- but but not quite. Maybe buick seat covers... Or could be a custom pattern someone had made.
They will work fine in an elky. elks and chevelles got the same seats 1968-72
Enganeer May 7th, 06, 3:39 PM The back and skirts are plastic, so it is narrowed down to a 68' then.
I not sure about the covers, I'll check out buick stuff.
Thanks
Chevy 70 SS vert May 8th, 06, 12:14 AM My guess is a 68 since I had a set, fortunately traded those off and got a nice 70 set!
mcmlxix May 8th, 06, 4:49 PM I think they are from a GTO . . .
Enganeer May 8th, 06, 5:13 PM Thanks guys,:)
I did some looking and found that they match a 67 GTO seat from a e-bay ad and then checked opgi website. The pic from opgi was not as clear but it looks like same pattern.
I will have to double check to see if the the backing was plastic or metal. I never looked at too closely at it and thought it was plastic.
apratkins May 8th, 06, 8:49 PM I am glad to hear you located the year and model. You guys were starting to scare me.... I was thinking that my 68 had the wrong seats.
I can see by the picture that the backs are metal.
You've got a great pair of seats for a 1970 El Camino.
I've always thought that GM made a big mistake by putting the seat release button in the middle of the back on the 69-72 El Camino's. Makes it very difficult to reach.
If you want factory headrests, you may have a problem there as your seats may not have provisions for the headrest shafts. I believe that headrests were available as an option that year (67), but very rare and I don't know if all the bucket seats in 67 had provisions for the headrests. Let us know, if you happen to remove one of the backs.
The seat sides should also be metal on those seats.
You could probably unload those seats on eBay for a nice sum and purchase some nice 69-72 seats with money left over ! That is, if you want the correct seats.
If the drivers side seat is as nice as the passenger side seat looks, you shouldn't have too much trouble getting $400+ on eBay.

Enganeer May 9th, 06, 3:20 PM They look great from a distance but they do show some wear in the seams and there is some red overspray from painting. I sure I could rub the overspray off but I was thinking of recovering.
Should I recover them as the orginal GTO or Chevelle? I am partial to the GTO look vs Chevelle but if I decide to unload them after a while which be better for appeal to buyers...GTO or Chevelle?
cm70man May 10th, 06, 8:37 PM They are from a 68 Lemans/GTO. I'd use Chevelle seat covers myself but it's your car ;)
Mr69 May 10th, 06, 9:06 PM They are from a 68 Lemans/GTO. I'd use Chevelle seat covers myself but it's your car ;)
Can't be 68's.
68's would have plastic sides and back.
Enganeer May 10th, 06, 11:07 PM Guys,
I went out to the shed and they are metal back and sides. I was fooled at first because the backs and sides looked like they were textured and thought it was plastic until I knock my knuckles on them.
So they are 67 Lemans/ GTO seats.
Chris R May 11th, 06, 3:51 AM I actually do have a extra set of 67 Lemans buckets that I pulled out of that car myself, along with the console and a few other misc parts. But these do not have metal backs on them. They sure do match the rest of the interior age wise and look like they were original to the car.
John, if your not intrested in keeping them please let me know. My buckets in my 66 are 67 or 68 seats and also have the plastic backs w/button release. I wouldnt mind getting a set with the metal backs on them.
