1969_327 May 2nd, 01, 7:31 PM i have a 69 chevelle that is white with a black top. i am going to paint it and should i leave it on? it is kinda starting to crack. i am going to paint it bright red or candy apple red. what would look better a solid color car or one with the vinyl top? dsolomon May 2nd, 01, 7:49 PM My brother-in-law has a 68 that he painted white. It looked good but he got a hold of the trim and new top last week. It made all the difference in the world. If you plan to paint below the body side trim black then the top is a must! That way if there is any rust that needs looking after it is take care of. But as others have said, remove the top and deal with any problems, then repaint. I have owned two '69s. The black one had a vinyl top and I loved the Tripple Black look. The red one that I own today used to have a vinyl top but the guy I bought it from didn't like it so he removed it but painted the roof black. You can get the idea of how your car would look.
