I do plan on lowering the front an inch or so (future plans include SC&C Stage2 package),and drop the rear to match (with new springs)...

17X9.5 Vintage V40s with 275/40/17 Nitto 555R all around... (6.0/5.5 BS front/rear)... Front uses Hotchkis 1" drop springs... rear TRW/Moog replacement (stock height)

I like it. I'm after that same type mellow slammed look myself. What suspension package do you have under your car now?

Thanks,
no real package...
Front:
Hotchkis 1" drop BB springs, poly bushings, stock rebuild (ball joints, Monroe Senso=a-trac shocks, etc), 1-1/4" sway bar and "1972 Chevelle" disc brakes...

Rear:
Global West Tubular lower arms (with spherical bearings on frame side), stock upper arms with new rubber bushings, factory sway bar and stock replacement springs (8+ years old)...

I did have my two old rear wheels in the trunk when I took these photos, but I don't think it dropped the car much (15X8 steel wheels w/ BFG 295/50/15 tires)

On the rear, I plan new springs, Edelbrock upper arms (adjustible with spherical bearing), and Wolfe Racecraft bearings on the ears...

On the front I plan the SC&C Stage2 package (taller modular lower BJ, adjustible upper arms and BJ), and tubular lowers (Spohn, Afco, other?)... And new shocks all around...

I also plan on C5 rear disc brakes (just waiting for a kit with the parking brake)...

Tony,

I like it. With an inch out of the front at some point it will be prefect.

Outstanding!! I like it the way it is, but agree that 1" lower in the front would be even better.

A real nice looking car but I do prefer the slightly nose down look too.

I love it!!! Are those 17x9.5's all the way around? How about the 275's, are they front and back? Do you have any rubbing issues?

17X9.5 All around... 275/40/17 All around... No rubbing, and rubbing not anticipated, even if lowered a few more inches...

BUT, I did have to alter the BackSpacing front and rear...

The fronts have 6.0" of BS, to insure they clear the outer fender "lip" area (actually a bolt and stiffening ribs will be the first clearance issue)...

On the rear, the 6.0" BS fits! BUT, the tire is tucked in too far (IMO)... So I went with the 5.5" BS on the rear to move the wheels out slightly... 5.0" MIGHT have been okay, but tight. Eventually I plan on rear discs that will move the rear out even further (very little though, thickness of drum versus thickness of rotor)... I don't mind using a thin spacer, but I'd rather have the differing BS than run a spacer over 1/2" (unless hub-centric, etc)

I deally, I would have liked to go wider, and eventually I might (but YEARS down the road). Going wider limits the tire choices (285/295/305 should all fit, but not too much available in a 17"... the tires I chose have nothing btween 275/40/17 and 315/35/17 (same height as the 275)...

Going wider on the front is also a possibility, as the two limiting areas seem to be the swaybar at full lock (I still have about 3/8" clearnce at full lock) and the upper ball-joint to wheel clearance (because a wider tire would need a wider rim, with more BS to keep the "front-side" clearance the same)...

I've seen several guys now that are running those wheels and all of them have left the center caps off. Is there a reason for that?

Looks sweet, I'm considering the V45's for my '69. But, I am curious about the center caps.

285/40/17's were an OEM sizing on many C4 Corvettes. What brand of tire did you purchase,Tony?

I bought Nitto 555R (Drag Radials, but can be used for daily driver and on the front)... I like the aggressive look of the tread block, and I really only anticipate less than 1000 miles per year for the next few years (wish I could get more than that)... Nitto has a 555 RII that is basically the same (looks and tread compound) but a little stiffer for better handling, but there's a premium to pay for that... I figured these 555R's should be adequate...

I was looking previously, and I wanted the front and rear tread patterns to match, and most brands didn't have both the 275/40 and the 285/40 in the same line, and I wanted at least 275 in front... At least in a "budget" priced line... I was looking for roughly under $175 per tire... Got the Nittos for $145 each... I was also thinking that 275 & 285 I would compromize for the ability to rotate and carry a spare tire (the rotation idea went out the window with the different BS...).

I was actually worried that I couldn't fit larger than 275 in front... If I had known I could fit 285/40s, I might have gone a different brand and done those ALL around... I am already thinking of the future... Someday when I redo the body and paint, I will make to mods to Hopefully fit 305 or 315's ALL around...

Shhh! Don't tell anyone... I am more of a poser anyway ;)

Someday, I hope to build a nice street/Track car, but right now I can't afford it (both monetarily and time-wise)... I want an aggressive looking cruiser... Thats not to say that form won't follow function, just that the budget compromise is strong...

I ran Nitto Nt555s on my 93 C4 in 255/45 and 285/40. Decent tire and at the time a great bang for the buck.
