: another SS stripe question

Would you smart people help straighten me out on the 70-72 stripes? I am totally confused as to where the deck lid/rear stripes are supposed to end. I have seen a couple supposedly "original" paint cars where they go all the way under the trim (hardtop, no vinyl..which is what I have). But in the assembly manual, it says they end 2" from the bottom of the trim.

To answer this great personal mystery, I did a search through the archives of this section, and found the same two answers.. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif So I am just as lost as when I started this! If the stripes do end before the rear window trim, do they just end abruptly? Did different plants turn them out differently? Any one with a pic of stripes that end early?

I'm not building my car for restoration judging, but I want it to look close to "right" in many ways from the exterior when you see it from a distance (like it might have been had it been new today and you just put some wheels on it) And while I personally like the stripes to be trimmed out at the window, I'd just like to know what is "correct".

Thanks a bunch for your help.

I am by no means a 70 expert but I have not heard of stripes ending short of the rear window trim or rear vinyl top trim. Not sure if this changed in 71 & 72. For example, the opposite is true for 69 Z/28 stripes.

Just my $.02 worth.

On the 70's the stripes do not end before the trim. They extend all the way to the window, under the trim, just as they do on the hood. No doubt.

I saw the same diagrams in the assembly manual that you are referring to. THe only thing I can figure is that they meant on a vinly top car, to stop 2" awaw from the window? The top would cover the ends in that case anyway?
