69bigblock May 5th, 06, 11:40 AM Ladies like diamonds and we like performance parts. After spending 2 arms and a leg I call these afr 315's my diamonds. Maybe she will let me display them in the living room?

Thanks. Firefox seems to have alot of quirks.
GOSFAST May 5th, 06, 2:25 PM If you're planning on using the "under-the-manifold" head bolt holes, I would recommend having a "professional" make the 4 holes somewhat deeper in the heads. You'll find you only have about 3 or 4 solid threads grabbing not counting the 1/2 thread or chamfer at the hole. Obviously not enough in our opinion or the customer's also now, to get the proper torque specs.
He almost "stripped" the threads out of one hole. He had noticed it didn't "feel" right when tightening them. He was using studs by the way. My son e-mailed AFR (again) about them being too shallow. They claimed they couldn't make them any deeper due to the port design. They recommended 40# torque. We feel with that low amount of torque on a 7/16 x 180,000# fastener he'll find all the pieces in the pan in a few weeks.
We have no problem here making them .750"/.875" deep and grabbing all the threads available on the ARP "S" studs, which have .750" long threads. If we can get "deep" enough we'll use the "L" studs (1.000") instead. He'll be able to get the torque up where it belongs, in the neighborhood of 55#. Thanks, Gary in N.Y.
P.S. Contrary to AFR's info, there's definitely enough room to go deeper. This info only applies if you're using an aftermarket block with the inner holes, if they're going on a "stock" block there's no need to worry!

Great pics Frank, I just stole them to add to my collection,,,
Ron454 May 5th, 06, 2:59 PM Oh, those won't work.
The ports are too small.
And everything is too shiny.
Better box em back up and send them to me.
I can put them in my living room!
Ron
fowl69 May 5th, 06, 3:15 PM when i got mine i put them in the middle bedroom on the extra bed but my wife made me move them after she caught me talking to them .man those things are nice oh and I had no problem putting them on my merlin block
Busted Knuckles May 5th, 06, 3:19 PM I wouldn't recommend putting them in the bedroom - I had a buddy that got caught glancing at his polished tunnel ram/carb setup that was on his dresser one evening when he and his wife were doing the wild monkey dance. He slept several nights on the couch after that episode.
Nice looking heads, dude!
LNEEDFOURSPEED May 5th, 06, 3:26 PM Is A Rice Lookin Set Of Heads
LNEEDFOURSPEED May 5th, 06, 3:26 PM Nice Lol
jbird May 5th, 06, 3:28 PM If you live out in The Colony, it probably didn't hurt that bad.;) Is that dog doo in the grass? I sure hope you didn't get any of it on those high dollar heads. That would be a tragedy!:D

LMAO! THAT is funny!!! Hey BoTy, do you hang out at Sunset machine? Tell Tracy to kiss my azz!:p
Shawn Gilbert May 5th, 06, 3:42 PM Cant wait to fondle mine when they come in from Mike. Ill just have to be content to stare at the chambers though as i didnt spring for the fully ported 335's and went with 325 plus chamber option. Engine is going to make more than i can use for the next year anyway ;). In fact i expect it to be down right treacherous on the street. Hmmm......im thinking on top of entertainment center like a center channel speaker with the chambers point out like speakers!!...be like those are 700+hp speakers baby!!.
At least i know im not alone now......
Da_chevyman May 5th, 06, 4:11 PM Hey, I felt the same way when I got 315's, they were too pretty to install. I have about 20 photos of them before I installed them.
I wasn’t aware of the shallow intake bolt problems.
I didn’t have any problems installing my tunnel ram on my heads.
Just for note: Be sure to check those push rod guide plates from time to time ( recheck the rocker studs torque. etc... I had 2 of them crack on me last year, were the bar tapers down. I contacted Tony @ AFR about it and he took care of it for me.
You can't beat AFR for continuing customer service after a sale.
-SS454- May 5th, 06, 4:41 PM She's a beaut Clark
Harold Sutton May 5th, 06, 5:09 PM It took about a year for me to convince my son to put the "357 CNC" AFR heads on the 598 and put it in the car. It sure does run good so i think he's glad he did now. Now, if it would just quit breaking transmissions. Those sure are pretty pictures. By the way, those threaded holes only need to be as deep as the diameter of the stud, as it won't get any stronger than that no matter how long the threads are, according to a machinist friend of mine. If the bolt is 1/2" in diameter anything threaded more than 1/2" is just a waste. If it breaks it was just because of a flaw in the bolt. Magnaflux everything.
69bigblock May 5th, 06, 7:29 PM Thanks for all the nice comments. Look so pretty you have to wear shades. I will install them this weekend and get the pushrod measurements so I can get it ready for the team chevelle day at Denton Dragway. Look forward to setting new et records on motor. Thanks again Mike for the great deal on the heads and the tech support.
Drewz68 May 5th, 06, 7:44 PM Awsome, absolutly awsome. Your wife is a very lucky woman!!!
