: Slip yoke/Driveline help!!

Hi all.

When I first bought my 67 Chevelle 3 yrs ago it had vibrations around 80 mph. EVERYTHING except the driveshaft and slip yoke are now new. Still have the same vibrations. So I took out the slip yoke and replaced it because when I put it all back together I noticed the yoke was showing some wear from the bushing. The first new yoke I tried was an Ebay special, it would even go in. The spline whole was so far off center it wasn’t even funny. So I sent that back and got an Inland Empire slip yoke from Jegs. That went in ok but was on the tight side, compared to the original which slides right in there. Vibrations are still there but not as bad, definitely changed the frequency. So now im thinking it must be the driveshaft. So I take it back out and the new slip yoke looks like the old one, wide grove the width of the bushing. I only drove about 100 miles with the new one. What’s going on? Are these aftermarket slip yokes just not made to the tolerances of the old ones? Spline hole just not on center like they should be? Causing them to sort of bind and go in tight and wear away like that so fast!! I doubt my driveshaft being out of balance would cause this to happen so quickly? I only took it to vibrations speeds twice during the100 miles. Any help on this would be great all.

Thanks
Tim

Do you still have the stock speedo gear setup in there? It helps lube the rear bushing.

could the driveshaft angles be off? Trans tail/pinion angles?

I do have the stock speed setup I believe. Steel gear on shaft with blue plastic cable gear. Is there something that could stop oil from getting back to that bushing? The trans is completely rebuilt. I have never had oil come out of the tail housing when I pull the yoke out. Even if the front end is jacked up. Is that normal? Could this be an oil issue? I checked the oil level many times and its perfect. Could an off balance driveshaft kill a yoke in under a 100 miles?

Well, Just got a call from the driveshaft place. They spun it up to 3000 rpm and its fine. So, its not the driveshaft. I said what could make my tranny eat yokes like that. He said the only thing he can think of is my output shaft is bent. That sound possible or even common? ARGH! I think ill just put it back together and drive it. Looks like I have next winters project lined up! :(
