Has anybody tryed putting one of Covans dashes in your Chevelle. I'm wanting to put the SS style dash they have in my 70, but I have the sweep style now and they say you can't do this. I say a little cutting and grinding and anything will fit. Plus give me some feadback on Covan's products or options for other aftermarket dashes with custom gauges. I like the Autometer Gauges, but I want them lighted in blue, I was thinking about adding the colorered bulbs to the Pro-Comp Ultra-Lites by Autometer, lot cheaper than those C2's and Cobalts by Autometer. What do ya think, or is it worth the extra money for the Cobalts or C2's

This has been discussed a few times... I recommend a search.
You will find that opinions vary and your own satisfaction will depend greatly on your expectations. If you expect too much you will probably not be happy with Covan's product.

You can get one for the sweep dash, why not just do that? We have the added benefit of a headlight knob hole with the sweep dash unit.

I've seen their dash that replaces the sweep style and it looked really nice. It also uses round guages and since it is designed to replace the sweep dash should be much easier to work with. If your intent on the SS style why not just put in the repro SS dash and use the guages you want. Replacing the sweep with the designed replacement however is going to involve a lot less engineering than trying to use a replacement dash that was designed for the sweep application. The Corvan sweep replacement is a good look.

Webfoot I just checkout your pics and I must say I like the dash, sweep it is for me. What gauges are you using, and are they lit in blue, looks that way, if so is that the way they came or did you do the colored bulbs?

Gauges are autometer sport comps. They are backlit with blue LEDs that simply push into a 194 bulb socket. The LEDs I'm using give off light in a 270 degree range so there isn't one section with a higher intensity than another. Only downfall is due to the low power they use they won't do much when you turn the dimmer.

I have seen them in the 66 and 67s before and they looked very cheap to me and the area near the radio on those dash's really looked odd the way they did the seam and edges. I guess you would have to see that for yourself to see what I mean. They sure are spendy though. I would rather make one myself.

I am thinking more and more about needing to reinforce mine in my '68. Things just bounce too darn much.
