does anyone know if you can get repair panels for this area at bottom of cowl/firewall or does this fall into the make your own catagory.this hollow area was filled 3/4 the way up with powdered leaves.i cant figure out how to add pictures to this post but the area im talking about is behind where the lower fender rusts out on a 70.the lower fender mounting area is still there but the metal around it is thin

yes :( unfourtunatly.very nice job on the repair checked out you car had a 72 myself STILL kicking myself 10 years later for selling it.well all i need is more time and patience to repair this.i guess i,ll be a migweldin fool for a few more days thank much

I need to do the same thing. I'm going to see if I can find any replacement panels.

One more example for ya here. (http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/bdomercq/album?.dir=/33c2) Everytime I cut one panel back the one behind it was rusted!! I'm still in the process of welding the panels in.

I had the same problem with my 70 chevelle.I searched everywhere for aftermarket panels and came up with a zero.After getting a price from some arizona rust free salvage yards the cost was $150 a side.I ended up making them myself.

All the chevelles I have seen over the years the bottom of the side cowls behind the fenders are always rusted out.You would think that the aftermarket panel manufactures would start popping out repair panels.They make almost every other panel for the chevelles.

You did a killer job on the cowl repair. Any tips for my doing the same thing? I would like to know how you fabricated that panel. Was it 2 pieces, the one even with the firewall then the one you see from the side of the cowl? Thanks - Juan

I just did mine inner and outer.

Just take a piece of cardboard and bend it up to the shape you want than lie it flat on a piece of sheetmetal and scribe it, bend it up with a brake (if you have one )and weld it in.

I didn't have a brake I hammered mine over the edge of my metal bech and it came out fine.
